We've all seen this post as much as 5 times a day. It's part of a cut and paste job that is a standard answer to questions.
>> "Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."
Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart <<
So, if a corporate CEO makes the statement that global warming is real, does that give the argument more truth, or is Wal-Mart trying to sell more CFC's?
Never forget that global warming is very, very profitable.

sure it makes it true, to a "warm-monger".
though i'm confused that since i'm the CEO of my company and i say it's false, no one cuts and pastes my statements.
another thought.
santa claus MUST be real.
NORAD tracks him every christmas eve.
there is a consensus that he exists.
all the department stores, including walmart, have his likeness every holiday season.
so therefore he exists, using the "warm mongers" reasoning.

Well by golly if the CEO of WAL-MART says that global warming is real or that we are causing then it must be true. We must start driving hybrid cars as soon as possible and plant trees anywhere we can find. Then we must turn off all our computers because they use way to much electricity.

Wal-Mart is trying to get positive PR. By acting concerned about what a large portion of the nation is concerned about they hope to drum up business. The CEO of Wal-Mart has no way of knowing whether or not global warming is real. Scientists are arguing about it. How would he know?
Wal-Mart also gets most of it's goods from China. Have you seen China's environmental standards? If Wal-Mart wanted to change global warming they would boycott Chinese products that contribute to the conditions thought to be causing global warming.

I agree with Mr. Scott, in that it is real. I am not convinced yet that much can be done about it. I will do what I can because I believe we need to get off foreign oil, but nature is brutal. Nature has no conscience and kills with abandon. Thousands of species came and went long before us. Are we next?

Oh, well, if a Walmart CEO says it, then it must be true! Warmart CEO statements are the gold standard of truth, right?

Who cares what wal-marts CEO thinks? He isn't a scientist, but is global warming profitable for oil companies?
"At the same time, Shell - and many other companies, for that matter - know that acting in an environmentally responsible manner is simply good business. That’s why, for instance, Shell was one of the first energy companies to acknowledge the threat of climate change, to call for action by governments, and to take action ourselves (in 1998 we voluntarily set our own targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions). " The vast majority of the scientific community is concerned about global warming. There's no question that CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere have been going up and are projected to continue to go up. That's why it is so important that we focus on efficiency. "

Of course even the existence of a consensus does not make it Real---its reality is independent of anyone's thoughts about it.

He is no more--or less--qualified to assess the science of global warming than any other layperson--including Rush LImbaugh and Al Gore.
What the so-caled "skeptics" don't understand--because they know nothing about science--is that people who are pusing for "green" policy changes are not relying on wha tAl Gore says--they are relying on what competant scientists are saying. We rely on people like Gore--or any other non-scientist spokesman--to (and only to) the extent he/she has proven to be a reliable reporter of wha thte scientists are saying. I do this myself, even as a academic, because it saves me time--I know (by checking his sources) that Gore reports the science accurately and reliable--so I tend to rely on him and only check the source when its something Ihave a reason to dig deeper into (which also provides an ongoing check of his accuracy).
The statements frm the WalMart CEO are positive--it's goood to see that corporate leaders are beginning tosupport change. But its not evidence for or against global warming/climate change

Especially if it is a Walmart executive. They get all of their products manufactured by the energy that comes from burning Billions of tons of Chinese coal.
