You grin and bear it. Being polite and thankful for the host's hospitality is a key part of proper social etiquette.

Here is the etiquette..If you are serving yourself, either take the tiniest portion or none at all. If it is the main course, take a small amount--taste it and leave it. A proper host knows not to comment on whether or not you liked it or that you left it.

If you are being served--say--"just a little, thank you." Take a small taste and leave it. If someone remarks that you didn't eat it--which they shouldn't--simply say that you had enough, thank you. Period. It isn't appropriate to ask for something other than what the host has offered.

You don't have to explain that you hate something as that would be hurtful to your host. Be vocal in your appreciation of the invitation, instead.

A smart host who invites you back may ask in advance if there are some things you prefer--that is your chance to remark on things you like. The omission of the thing that you hate will confirm that you would rather not have it again.

Grin and bear it.

Trust me, very few cooks would take you telling them that very well. Most of us want approval for the food we cook and that would be insulting. If it is something you just hate and aren't allergic to, don't say a word, take a small bit if possible and if there are enough other dishes it might even work out where you don't end up having to eat it.

There are few foods I hate, sometimes it is the preparation.
I would definately taste it, in the hope that the way it has been prepared, will be better than the way I didn't like it.
Depending upon the circumstance would dictate my actions, to continue to eat it or decline and ask for something else.

Most of the time they aren' serving just the one thing.

You should politely decline that item and take the rest of the items/dishes offered.

If there IS just the one thing, taks as small a serving as possible and tough it out.

it would definitely be rude to ask the host for something else.

Politely eat the first bite and nibble at the rest. Never spit it out and never eat a bunch if it's unbearable. It's ok to leave some on the plate. Just don't NOT eat it. It'll be an offense to your host.

I would definantly grin and bare it! I would never want to offend anyone, so
I would just eat up as fast as I could to hurry up and get it over with :)

When I lived in DC, a friend from church invited my daughter and I over for dinner. It wasn't anything fancy. It was simply hotdogs, baked beans, salad and sodas. Well... I really cannot handle baked beans. I've tried so many times.... just can't keep them down.

Well... my daughter had never had baked beans before. I encouraged her to try them... after all, she just might like them. After one bite, she declared them as super yummy. I ate a couple of bites of mine, and she said she wanted more. So... being a good mom, I gave her mine.

No one knew that I really don't like baked beans. They thought I was just making another sacrifice to keep my kid happy. lol
