I need help because I'm trying to go back to college, but like many Americans most of my doctor visits are to a free clinic.

You can probably get diagnosed by someone at a free clinic. They might even give you a prescription. But unless you're very wealthy, you won't be able to afford even the generic Adderall or Ritalin. (Forget about the brand name XR type or Concerta - crazy expensive.) And they can't give samples of schedule II meds.

Consider giving your Dr's office a call, as well as the counseling office of the college you with to attend.
They should be able to give you an answer of how and where to be tested.

Cash always works, too.

You can, you just have to pay for the testing yourself.
