i guess when you all became atheists, or had your logical awakening as some put it, did all that sarcasm and mocking of everybody else not like you come out or did you have to go somewhere and learn that?

Look im a Chrisitan, you dont like how i am thats fine, you believe different from me, thats fine too, but why do you insist on all the mockery and sarcasm towards Chrisitans?

im very smart, very successful and very clear minded, and i see every question on R&S with all this repetitive attitude towards my faith and im just trying to figure it out..

civil people.

I guess we haven't corned the market on sarcasm. This post of yours is simply DRIPPING with it. If it's fine for you to be what you are, why isn't it fine for we atheists to be who we are? Look up civil, because your post wasn't.

atheist

"i guess when you all became atheists, or had your logical awakening as some put it, did all that sarcasm and mocking of everybody else not like you come out or did you have to go somewhere and learn that?"

Little bit of the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it?

R&S is the Romper Room of Answers. Used to be the same way in Channels. The mockery and sarcasm is a two way street. Both sides do it. It's the way the game is played. Athiests have a bit of a hard time due to the hall monitors, but that's not unusual.

Congratulations on being smart and successful. Doesn't change a thing. You want repetitive? Be an athiest and listen to bible thumping christians tell you that you're going to hell because an idea you don't believe in doesn't like you.

over and over and over....

When you talk to us like that, you really don't have a leg to stand on when you try to tell us to be civil.

1.) My sarcasm has nothing to do with atheism; it's an integral part of my personality.

2.) I only use mockery and sarcasm where its use is merited. Given that you seem like an intelligent (although somewhat rude) person, sarcasm and mockery aren't necessary here. When they become necessary is when I see arguments that I've seen fifty billion and three times before. Usually, these arguments are also complete failures of logic (Pascal's Wager, Kalam Cosmological Argument, etc.).

3.) Most of the atheists I've seen on here (there are a few jerks) do tend to be civil. In fact, I'd argue that R&S atheists, as a group, tend to be more civil than R&S Christians.

"Ridicule is the only weapon that can be used against unintelligible propositions." -- Thomas Jefferson

I think the best way for you to understand is to begin with a simple question. Are you aware that telling someone they will burn in Hell is hate-speech? You may think it's harmless, or that it's justified because it's the word of your Lord, but the truth is it is every bit as hateful as using the N-word to address an African-American. Do you have any real idea of the relentless hate spewed by Christian fundamentalists? I was assaulted four times in high school by roving gangs of Christian boys who imagined beating up atheists was their Christian duty. I've lost two excellent corporate jobs because the "investors wouldn't like it if they knew we had atheists on the payroll." I keep a 12 gauge pump and a box of buckshot in my home because I'm an atheist living in Christian America. ...and you have the gall to whine and complain about a little mockery and sarcasm! I guarantee, if you were in my shoes, you'd be doing exactly the same.

If you want to help make the situation better, I suggest you start by working to curb the vile hate spewed by the ignorant fundamentalists of your own faith. Then I'll listen to your opinion of atheist verbiage.

I've found that it's christians that have more of a problem with differences. I'm perfectly content to live and let live, but it's your team that tends to try and inject their beliefs into government, public schools, etc. in an attempt to force their views on me. Last time I checked, atheists don't solicit door to door or try to convert people the way your fellow christians do. If you get mocking and sarcasm, it's in response to things christians have done to us.

So the Christian who called me a savage pig for being an atheist was being 'civil' as you put it?

I don't generalise about Christians, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't make ridiculous generalisations about atheists. It's silly and such behaviour belongs on the playground.

kaboodle: Then isn't it brainwashing when Christians repetitively post Christian material etc??

Perhaps it isn't the best way to express our views, but sometimes we can't help it. Most of us atheists understand what it's like to be indoctrinated. We now understand how utterly foolish it is to believe in an "old man in the sky" and all that nonsense. There has NEVER been not one iota of proof that god exists. People just cling to religion because they are afraid of death.

I only tend to mock those who deserve it. If you are smart and clear minded - and open minded enough to admit that not everyone on here is going to agree with you on every point - then I look forward to argueing theological matters with you in the near future

I've been sarcastic and mocking all my life. Nothing personal, and it's not specific toward religion. Hey, I'm not even a real atheist.

Regardless of what you receive at face value. This is what really lies beneath: “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him (God) who sent Me" John 15:18-22.

Satan is the god of this world. That is why "the dragon (Satan) was enraged with the woman (Israel), and went off to make war (mockery, persecution, violence, and martyrdom) with the rest of her children (Christians), who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus (the bible)" Revelation 12:17.

“...And children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. And you will be hated by all for My (Jesus')name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved." Matthew 10:21-22.

Then God brings it to a successful conclusion...soon: "You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing," says the LORD of hosts." Malachi 4:3.

God bless
