I flew back home to Australia from London, via Singapore. My flight got in at around 6 am. I basically forced myself to stay awake for the whole day (even though I had hardly any sleep on the plane) and then went to bed at around 9pm. By doing that I managed to avoid any jetlag (which was very lucky, considering I had to go back to work the next day!)

Jet lag affects different people in different ways. For Europe to Australia, one to three days should see you right. If you are having a stopover in Singapore, you will adjust faster. If you are used to shift work at home, it will take you little time to adjust. If you go immediately into the normal routine of the new time zone you should be fine within three days. Seasoned travellers take less time than this.

I've been to California (-8hrs) a number of times and one day per hour time zone change for jet lag recovery is about right.
