I have two cats, one girl who is a year old, living with me, and a boy 4 years old living at my mom's that I take care of. I've been bringing the girl to visit the boy every couple of weeks since she was a 10 week old kitten, the visits last about ten minutes. They have sniffed each other over and seem friendly, the boy seems to especially like the girl, they are both fixed. I took her over to see the boy today and I let her out of her carrier and she ran at him and they both bit on each other's necks, for a moment I was scared and almost seperated them, but then they both took off following each other back and forth in the house. There was no growling or hissing, but still it seemed pretty violent, and then they got along. Was this play, or aggresion?

This is play fighting. A kittys skin is pretty tough and a lot of times they bite while playing. This shouldnt hurt them at all. If one rolls onto its back then you know for sure they are playing. A cat wont go belly up if it is fighting, this makes them vulnerable. As long as there is no hissing or growling then things are fine. Let them play...they are probably excited to have a playmate since they each live alone with no other cats.

I think it was aggressive playfulness.
I used to have a male and female kitty and they got on quite well. Every now and then they would gently bite one another and tossle about, but soon after the playing ensued. They would run and chase one another, stopping only to swat at each other or roll around on the ground.
As you said - there was no hissing or growling. If they are not showing signs of fear and aggression (like puffed-up tails, walking sideways), then you should be fine.

If there was no growling and fistfighting going on they were just playing. If they did not like each other they would hiss and spit and start slapping each other they would growl and the fur would be staning up on their necks and backs the tail would be straight up in the air and all puffed out .

I have 2 boy cats that are brothers and they play rough with each other all the time. It's just in their nature to play rough with each other just as their cousins the big cats do. As long as they aren't getting overly aggressive towards each other I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

Aggressive playfulness. We have a 5 yr old female and just got a new male kitty. They play like this all the time.

I think the male cat was just telling your cat that this was his territory. I wouldn't worry about it to much. Cats I have found to be very territorial, and that this is his home, she is just a visitor so he was explaining this to her in a cats way
