I am thinking i might be going throu depression...I've been researching and talking to people who have it so I have an appointment for next week. But I've always been paraniod over the dumbest little things. Could this be a symptom of depression??? Is there anyone out there who feels like this??? Thanks!!!

I thought that my paranoia was a side effect of citalopram, though I am now getting it with mirtazapine (where it is not a recorded side effect), so my sister (who happens to be a nurse) believes it could be part of my depression, though the therapist (a mental nurse) is not really sure. It doesn't really matter that much to be as I am being refered to a therapeutic community, and I know my fears are based on nothing. It is still an awful feeling though, I hope you quickly get over it.

I have chronic depression and am also paranoid. One has nothing to do with the other in my case. The parania is something i live with. A problem with it is that im always on edge and have taken protonics twice to cure ulcers. As for the depression, i was on lexapro and it did wonders for it. The problem i had with it were the sexual side effects so i had my psychiatrist switch me to wellbutron which doesnt work as well but also has no side effects other than slight weight loss. The lexapro also had terrable withdrawl, even when tappering down. It was like i had the flu for three weeks and wasnt back to normal for three more - also i had what felt like occasional shocks in my brain. Dont stop taking it cold turkey if you are placed on it. If you stop cold turkey you can not function - flu symptoms, dizzy, head in a fog, no concentration.

Hi Jen, We all think way too much....Most days, we think about mostly negative stuff, and next day we think about the same things, and then more negative stuff. Can you believe me when I tell you that your thoughts are your choice? Think about that question really good. It is a true statement. The definition of paranoia, according to Wikpedia, in the internet..is as follows....(a disturbed thought process characterized by excessive anxiety and fear often to the point of irrationality and delusion) Believe that being paranoid, or worrying too much is just a choice, and you can beat this. I discovered that when I stopped looking at other people so closely and comparing and judging them, all of a sudden I stopped worrying about what they were thinking of me. Something to think about.

No when I was depressed I was like the opposite of paranoid. I went through a long period of apathy. If somebody said they were watching me I wouldn't have cared. If you came up to me and threatened to shoot me I wouldn't have cared.
However everyone is different so you might be suffering from both paranoia and depression.

paranoia is not usually associated with depression, tho there is nothing to say it can't be. Get some therapy, and start some meds.
