Leona Helmsley, the billonaire, died last week. She left $12 million dollars to her dog ... the grandchildren got $5 million.

What's your opinion on that? If you had all that money, in your will, would you leave it all to your dog, or your family?

Who ever inherited the dog will get the money to care for it. That will be one spoiled pooch! I'm on a friend of the families will for 10 grand per pet should anything happen to the family. People really do love their pets, and I think its wonderful to make sure they're well taken care of. 12 million is a little over board though...

She was a female Hitler! Her dog is lucky! He/she deserves the beeeaaaatch's $ and her thousands of pairs of shoes to chew on. That poor dog had to put up with her and should spend all it's $$$ on helping other dogs with bad owners!

Seriously, who inherited the dog because they are the ones about to get rich...Or are there laws that will prevent this $$$ from diong anything but sitting in a bank somewhere until dogs learn to read & write?

I'd give a big chunk to charity, a smaller chunk to my family (depending on how much they needed- if they needed alot I'd give less to charity) and leave my dog to someone I had left money to, who I trusted. I would set up a $5,000 fund for every year I thought the dog had left and if there was any extra when the dog died it went to charity. My parents are CHEAP with their dogs- "You don't need to buy dog toothpaste- just use human"- yeah then it'll DIE. "You took the dog to the vet for a throat infection- it was only puking, coughing, lethargic, and had a fever! What a waste of money!"

I believe she must of loved her pup. However, I also believe she would have been better off donating money to protect other animals and give to say, the Humane Society; ASCPA; etc. I would have also stated who was to keep the pup and give them money for taking care of the dog and room and board etc. After the pup is gone...that money would be well spent again on helping to find homes for homeless pets. I think that would improve her image greatly. Patti

well it was a maltese... so she probably calculated the dog would live around.... 7 or so more years on average? thats grooming once a month at probably a very over priced groomer.... and i saw in the picture the dog wears clothes, so different clothes at least every 2 months... and the burial next to her was probably very pricey..... i could reason it out haha :D

Depends -if the family loved me as much as the dog. It was her money..do with it what she will. She also left lots to charitable trusts.
