This morning I observed an officer take a poodle on a leash from the backseat of his squad car and take the dog into the dog grommers. Are policemen allowed to use the squad car for such personal errands ? Should I report this ?

He was there 20 mins. This was obviously not a police dog .lol

No. In fact it is a law on the books that the cop gets paid for the feed and grooming and gen'l maint. of the k-9 unless kept away from his home. This is an abuse by the officer, unless, he was transporting this dog for a grooming in accordance with the SOGs. Don't be alarmed, I do indeed know of a standard poodle who does SAR work and a chihuahua that does drug detection and several jack Russell's that do detection work as well, beagles and so forth and so on. Don't make assumptions based solely on the breed of the dog. Wouldn't hurt to call the PD and ask if they employ a poodle. and if they don't you should indeed blow that whistle. And by the way...cops don't do what ever the heck they want. If they did there would be no use for many judges and even less use for more lawyers!

Our department let us take our squads home. We had cars for each officer. Actually costs less keeping the fleet running.

CGIV is right. For a time, were asked to do personal errands on and off duty for more Police presence. They did not wanting us going to bars, taking our families or going to the liquor store, or out of town. Most other things were fine.

In some areas, the Police are allowed to take their squad car home with them, and are encouraged to use it on their off time. It shows more of a Police presence.

What is wrong with dropping your dog off on your way to work? If not he would have to go all of the way to the groomer and then all of the way back home to get his police car and so forth.

It's probably the mayor's wife's dog and this poor guy has to do their chores to keep his job.

Depends on the agency and the department policy.

You should've taken a video and posted it. But don't underestimate those toy dogs, they do have sharp teeth and they can be surprisingly aggressive.

I have come to learn, as should you, that the police can pretty much do whatever the heck they want!
