my son in law thinks I'm nuts for giving away my dryer. I have been hanging my clothes out for over a year...but what if more folks did? I was surprised at how LITTLE an inconvenience it turned out to be.

I've been hang out and hang in my clothes to dry for many many years. If you hang shirts and pants straight out of the washer on wire hangers they dry wrinkle free and ready to wear. And go figure they need to be hung on hangers straight out of the dryer any way so the time aspect is nil. I do this both summer and winter. In summer I outside line dry them or like in the winter I line dry them in the wash room or closet As for bedding I am some what of maverick in the winter, I wash them early in the morning and re-bed them wet. Most all of the time they are dry by bed time. Summer I line dry outside Socks and underwear I hang in on a line in the wash room in winter outside in summer.
All so the added moister in the winter adds to indoor humidity .

It is the perfect example of using solar and wind power in its purest form.
The only problem is when you have like a week of rainy drizzling days, without a dryer how can you manage to do any laundry. Maybe it is only more of an issue with more people in the house.

I always hang my clothes . Doesn't cost anything . I live in the city and trying to live as cheap as i can . So far I'm totally off the grid . Just have to pay 1200 property taxes and 35 a month water bill . I'm getting to old to bust my butt out there for all of the modern conveniences and to tell you the truth i don't want to bust my butt .I have more time for myself and loving it . Just sick of being a modern day slave to all the conveniences . My health has improved dramatically getting out of the rat race

Good idea using a clothesline instead of a dryer! Using clotheslines instead of dryers help reduce the use of electricity. So not only does it benefit you by a cheaper electric bill but it helps benefit the environment. Every little bit helps!!!

To each his own. I would never give up my dryer. I'm never home enough during the day to hang laundry out. We both work and I won't wait until the weekend to do all the laundry. Plus, in 100 degree heat, I'd probably pass out! I'll keep my dryer, thanks!

The energy usage is almost nil, so is the savings for the environment.

I like it because of how the clothes feel and smell. No detergent or perfume can match the outdoor sent.

it takes a lot longer for clothes to dry on a line. also, do you really want your underwear hanging out for everyone to see? clothes on a line just is in poor taste. it's tacky. there are better ways to save energy in other aspects of your life.
