Christians need to Study the bible individually as well as collectively in a bible study setting.

Scriptures that tells us why:

Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

II Timothy 2:15
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Psalm 1:2
But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

II Peter 3:8
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ

II Corinthians 10:4
For the WEAPONS of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;

Weapons refer to the word of God - and we use this against the enemy. It's important that we as christians read, study, meditate and apply God's word to our life.

Probably not, though places like this keep my hand in, to a degree.
I used to train bible study leaders.

But careful sincere bible study was one of the things that led me into atheism.

i think if you are going to live your live by a book, then yes, study, memorize it. And dont just pick and chose what you want to believe in/live by. You have to follow it word for word! When was the last time you stoned your children for not cleaning their room??

If you want to play by the rules, you have to play by ALL the rules!

ME? Havent ever read the bible. but i havent read the other religion's holy books either. Dont plan on starting now.

Always! My ladies' bible study is starting up again in a month, we go September through May. It's always a surprise the first night which book of the bible we will be studying. I've been in this for ten years, and my life has been transformed again and again!

no, people need more history classes, stop using god as an excuse to **** up and "be saved"

people should question "where did we come from?" from a logical standpoint, with evidence and truth and real answers

not some asshole who wrote a book on morals and the messiah and prophets (which were plentiful at the time) and then get all the uneducated masses to follow it,

its a pretty good idea if you think about the money it harbors, and its easy to make money off of stupid people, especially when they believe it
