Very Good-However man is selfish we live in a materialistic world and THANK GOD he saves us by grace not works..
Id say logic and common sense. more then 60% of scientist avoid religion. So are scientists immuned from the pain of disease and death..does thier common sense say I am going to die maybe I will find the answer to life in the dirt?
Knowledge and truth are available- So if thier knowledge is they are a Pedophile and sitting in jail..What knowledge and truth can they find to understand thay might be a worth while human being?

As a resident of the area, I can tell you that the people of New Orleans don't need hope. They need houses, good schools, and effective law enforcement. Hoping for those things doesn't make them magically appear. Hard work, commitment, and money make those things appear. Atheists realize that.
"One should seek for others the happiness one desires for himself." is a damn fine motto, in my opinion. The fact that few people practice it does not diminish its truth.

Bad Christians claim all sorts of silly things.
Mankind whether atheist, Christian, Buddhist, Sikh, Jew, Muslim or followers of any other religion or creed are thankfully altruistic and help their fellow man in their suffering.
All your question shows is that bad Christians try to hijack the high ground claim ownership of morals and engage in character assassination of anyone who does not believe as they do!
Man was created in the image of God - the vast majority are not Christian but do good work and act altruistically so are you suggesting that you are some kind of misfit from God's design?
Thank goodness there are far more good Christians out there that believe in a loving, inclusive, merciful and forgiving God!!!

atheists are common among the most intellectual and logical people in our society, they trust reason more than superstition and and rituals that date back to the dark ages, religion has caused much bloodshed
usually the murderers, rapists, recovering drug addicts, alcoholics, hookers and diseased or mentally deficient are the first to claim that they have "found god", and they teach it to their children too

What a load of BS.
An atheist would tell people in N.O. to get off their knees and work to improve their situation. An atheist would tell relief organizations to bring people food and supplies, not prayers.
Some US presidents were atheists, in all likelihood. They just couldn't afford to say it in public.
