how messy is he? My son is 5 and still sits, he tends to let his mind wander and soon everything follows, if you know what I mean!!!

Now is a good age, but every child is different. My nephew is 4 and my brother is teaching him how to go to the potty standing up. But his other son was 5 when he learned. Try teaching him now, but don't force him.

My son did it on his own because he wanted to "pee like Daddy". He's three. BUT - I would concentrate on making sure he is peeing in the potty consistently - sitting or standing - before working on teaching him to stand. Standing will happen, especially if he sees Daddy do it. Standing will also make your life easier when you take him to the bathroom in a public place.

I would say you can do it as soon as he can stand up and reach over the toilet, so the pee doesn't go on the floor. If he's 4, he should be tall enough for now.

My son wanted to be like his daddy and tried it on his own. If your son needs a little encouragement, you can throw a cheerio in the toilet and have him aim at the target.

Don't worry if he doesn't want to stand up yet. Let him do it in his own time. Occasionally my son (and even my husband!) will still sit down to pee.

yeah, about now would be fine. if you have a high toilet you'll just have to wait. but as soon as our little boy was able to stand on tippy toes and "reach" over the rim, we taught him.

Ummm...a year ago?...if he's still in diapers that is.

Otherwise, if he does everything on the toilet... #1 and #2 then I wouldn't be worried, less of a mess you have to clean up! Trust me.

*lol* Never!

Why teach him that he can pee on things?

Seriously most of the men I know sit down to pee unless they are out somewhere and there are urinals and the toilets are just too gross.
