I am 25 and can ski pretty damn good. I was looking at getting snowboard pants and a snowboard jacket rather than ski stuff. I am not into all of the preppy Mountain Hardwear/Northface crap I like the way the Burton stuff looks. I am just wondering will there be a performance difference? I am looking at the Burton Apres jacket and snowboard pants (because they are not nut huggers).

Well I just won the Apres jacket on ebay for 117.00 the bastard runs for 225+ everywhere I have seen it. As far as the pants I will probably go with Burton. If a ski lift operator makes fun of me I will kick my skies off and shove a ski pole up his @ss.

There really isnt a lot of difference.

I think snowboarding apparel could be used for skiing because in both sports, your basically keeping the snow out of your clothes and prevent yourself from catching a cold. I dont think there is much of a performance difference because snowboarding apparel and skiing apparel are pretty much the same thing.

Ski Pants Vs Snowboard Pants

Wear what you want...except jeans..only Dick Cheney skis in jeans.

Having sold this sort of stuff for awhile I can say honestly that there aren't any really big differences between the clothing. Snowboard pants generally have some more reinforcement in the seat and lack the reinforcement on the inside of the lower legs a skier might want to have. Most snowboard pants will fit over your boots.

There are a bunch of ski clothing companies specifically catering to the "new school" look....ski clothing that looks like snowboarding clothes. The only company I can think of off the top of my head is Orage from Quebec. (I get their job postings all the time and have looked at their site a lot...I also used to sell some of their stuff and it surely didn't look like TNF or MHW.) Grab a copy of Freeskier magazine. They should have some stuff reviewed or some ads for some companies that might have what you are looking for.

As far as jackets go...whaterver you like will most likley suit you well. There are just as many snowboarding jackets that are waterproof and windproof as there are ski jackets.

Pants are another story. You can go with a pair of snowboarding pants and be OK...but ski pants would be better. Like I said, the inside leg reinforcement is pretty important. The heavy Cordura really protects the fabric from slashes from your edges. I have three pair of "ski" pants. Two are reinforced, one isn't. Wanna guess which pair is torn to hell?

i konw what you mean. i can ski pretty damn good as well and i recently started snowbaording too. there is no reason why you cant mix and match the gear. the only thing that is likely to happen is that you will probably get made fun of by the chairlift operators, especially if you try to wear a ski racing helmet with mouth guard on your snowboard. but i ski in my snowboard coat sometimes and nothing horrible has happened so its deffinitely your choice.

Try the sporting goods shops in your area, also ask at your local ski area above town. These are probably less expensive than at Whistler or Grouse Mountain. I wear a set of thermal knit long johns under insulated ski pants, (mainly for a cushion when I land) and a "t" shirt under a turtleneck shirt and the add a sweater and a parka. Several thin layers are warmer than on thick layer. As a last source, try Goodwill or other similar sources and Craig's list.

Mass props to you, brother!! I grew up skiing and was pretty damn good myself, but then I started boarding instead. The snowboard gear is better than the ski gear if you like to remain dry. If you want to look perty, then you should stick with the knuckle-dragger outfits.

Funniest thing I have read for ages. Thanks.

Snowboarding gear has extra waterproofing on the backside, because of the amount of time they spend sitting around. The gloves have extra reinforcing on the knuckles, as well.
