One can hear about Jesus without the bible and believe, right?

No. It is only in the last 400 years that ordinary people had their own Bible. Without scripture, however, it is like going on an expedition without a compass. A compass does not point to 'true north', but it's close enough to get you there.

The demons believe in God - and shudder (so says the Bible). But here's the really interesting bit. They also know the Bible to be true. That's why the devil is so adept at quoting it, with just a little word added here, and a little twist there, to deceive those who don't know what the Bible really says. Well, people can believe in God without ever seeing the Bible, and people can believe in Jesus without ever seeing Jesus. People have come to faith in Christ through dreams and miracles. God's arm is not shortened that he cannot save the blind, the uneducated, the illiterate, the mentally handicapped etc. But the Bible is a tremendous help along the way. Anyone who says they believe in God but not in the Jesus of the Bible is not a Christian.

I believe so. The bible is our "road map" in life. If you have a hard time reading the bible, maybe you should start w/ the new testament. Especially Matthew, mark, luke & john - the books that talk about Jesus. A lot of the bible is conjecture and people interpret it differently. I believe in the bible but I will be honest, a lot of it doesn't make sense to me. But I am a human being and the bible is inspired by God so I need to pray that God will help me understand and take my doubts about some of the scriptures away. There is so much good in the bible that outweigh the "bad".

Of course you do. It's like if you asked if to be an evolutionist you had to believe in science think about it. First of all do you know what being a christian means? It means that you follow Jesus Christ"s teachings and you imitate in everyway possible. Now this being cleared up what other book has been as accurate about Jesus Christ as the bible? The bible says Christ was born in Bethlehem. Did you know that there was 2 Bethlehems. One was a big and wealthy city, while the other just a small town. Guess which city Jesus was born, yup the small, the bible calls it the insignificant city. (Mathew 2:1-5)

Now another question you might ask if the bible was written by men of blood, flesh and bone, how can this be the word of God? Ok Let me give you an example If the president of the USA tells his secretary, "Write this letter and send it to the governer of Illinois"-or who ever. Do you think the secretary's job is to write her own ideas and points of view of a certain subject? Of course, her duty is to write what the president is either dictating her or what ever he tells her to write. Am I wrong. This is exactly the same thing. The writers of the bible were humans but the Author is God. (2 Timothy 3:16,17)

Now lets think a little outside the box. Do you really believe that if this was a book made and inspired by men that it would've lasted so much and it would've been through so much persecution?

If you've noticed the things I have written in have Bible Scriptures so you can look through them yourself. The reason for this is so you won't say that I expressed my own ideas. Another source that has helped me alot is the website www.watchtower.org it's completely free and if you want they can send someone to your door with no obligation, no strings attached like some other organizations were they ask for a specific donation. I almost forgot to tell you the only thing they ask of you is to ask questions if you have any, if your not satisfied with an answer let them know. Well I gots to go but if anyone reads this and is really interested in learning the truth and the most believeable explanation to most of the unanswered questions about life/religion I advise you to check it out and ask for a free visit. You have nothing to loose. I guarantee it.

No. A christian means that you believe that Jesus is the savior. There are other documents beside the bible that support that belief.
However a majority of Christians believe that the bible is the infallible word of God. I think a most of the bible is not plausible but is possible, because through God all things are possible, even ones we can't fathom.
I see the bible as a handguide, a how to guide to find peace.

Yes. The Bible tells you who God is. If you don't believe the Bible then whatever "God" you do believe in is a false god. You can't just dream up an idea of who you think God is. You have to meet him for yourself. Creating your own idea of who God is breaks the second of the Ten Commandments.

The bible was put together a long time after Christ's death by humans. There are bound to be some errors. I believe it is a good guideline for how to live your life, but i think to much of the human prejudice ended up making its way into the writings. As a Christian you should read it and decide for yourself what you believe is valid and what is not. Try to lead the life that Christ modeled for us. Be kind to everyone, don't throw stones, and help those who suffer.

I would say that you need to believe the bible to be a Christian, but not necessarily to believe in God. A Christian, by definition is one that believes the bible account of God in the flesh, coming as Jesus to die for humanity's sins and has accepted His sacrifice as the only way to heaven.

To answer your question succinctly; yes. After all a Christian is one who accepts the Scriptures as the inspired and revealed word of God through man. A Christian needs the Scriptures to guide and articulate their belief in what has been revealed by God. For a Christian to deny the sanctity, validity, and necessity of the Scriptures is to deny what his faith is based on.
As a Catholic and a priest we go one step more. We hold to the necessity of the Scriptures and Apostolic Traditions (the Traditions of Jesus' apostles). The Traditions and traditions we hold flesh out the more obscure meanings of the Scriptures or supply what is not recorded in the Scriptures, but are of the rituals and revealed beliefs of Jesus. I hope this has been helpful. May the Lord bless and keep you. May the light of His face shine upon you.

As the Bible is the basis of the Christian faith, trying to be a Christian without believing in it would be like trying to be a scientist without believing in the laws of nature or a mathematic without believing in numbers.

The only source we have the teachings of Jesus is the Bible. If you reject the Bible, then you reject those teachings. How can you follow those teachings if you reject them?
