Oh goodness! I can come up with a number of reasons that I personally have heard...
1. We are a cult.
2. We are NOT Christians.
3. We are too strict.
4. We are weird....
5. We are all homophobes.
6. We are all racist, rich white, folk. (This one is my fave, seeing as how I am Hispanic and dirt poor!)
7. We are Satan worshipers.
8. We sacrifice small animals in our temples.
9. We do NOT read the bible, and have our own make-believe bible.
10. We don't believe in a woman's right to choose.
11. We are against gay marriages.
12. We are ALL polygamists.
13. Mormon women are door-mats.
14. A Mormon woman's job is only to make babies.
15. We believe that we are the only ones going to heaven.

Given some of the Mormon comments here, perhaps because they have a persecution complex?
Perhaps because Mormons don't seem to acknowledge lots of Christian denominations are persecuted - even to death?
Perhaps because Mormons don't seem to be open to the possiblity that their religion might not be entirely sound?
Perhaps because Mormons might not know what orthodox Christianity actually teaches?
Personally, I don't dislike any Mormons whatever. They are sincere, decent people - just somewhat deluded, that's all. And you are free to say exactly the same about me. I won't take offence!

Most people don't dislike the people, but the dislike the teachings. They feel sorry for the people because they think that we are confused, brainwashed individuals. Just keep plugging along and ignore all of them. It's all we can do.

"People always afraid of whats different"
-Cool Runnings
Many people don;t like us because, like mentioned the history of the Church. The doctrine we have isn't in question, it is all supported by the bible. It's just things that Anti-Mormons do to make the Church look bad, twisting truth.
But really if Satan is trying this hard to destroy this sect, giving motivation to Anti's and others, it must be something good. Has there been any other church that has gone through so much like the LDS church has at it's beginnings????? You'd think that at time with so much religious points of view, that they wouldn't mind the LDS religion. Yet they were persecuted, killed, raped, mocked, and many other things. Wait there has been a church with this much persecution, it was the primitive Church of Jesus Christ, he was killed for his beliefs, so were many of the apostles in those days. Interesting..............

Because they have not gotten to know about them. The same reason people don't like other religons. LDS is actually a very interesting Christian sect. I have studied it for years, yet I don't have that faith. They are misunderstood because of past church teachings.
LDS folks I know are some of the nicest I have ever met, but the same holds true for the Muslums and Christians, Hindus and all others.

New religions that make more money than older ones create envy, and in turn these threatened religoins preach hate against the Mormons.
Sadly, their ideas are not more far-fetched than ANY religion out there.

People who dislike LDS Doctrine do not understand it.
People who dislike LDS members may or may not have cause to dislike them based on individual LDS member behavior.

This is a common misconception that many Mormons have.
Nobody "hates you because you're Mormon." They simply "hate your Mormon church."
I fall into both categories: Mormon and "Anti-Mormon" (although I prefer the term Mormon Critic). I love the people, and I love many of the Church programs, but I have found out that the Church simply isn't true like it claims to be. That doesn't prevent me from retaining membership or even attending on Sunday, or from raising my children in it. I simply am not going to be "afraid" of voicing my critical opinions of the Church's history and faulty doctrines when given the opportunity.
In my observation, many LDS people suffer from a "persecution complex" because on one hand, they LOVE being "a peculiar people," yet on the other hand, are embarrassed by it, yet on still a third hand, don't like being embarrassed by it and throw their arms up in front of their faces to protect themselves against anyone willing to point out their little nuances.
You'll notice that the attacks on here are rarely "personal" against Mormons themselves, but mostly against the Church itself, which includes its doctrines, history, past leaders, policies, etc.
