ahhhhhhh, yet another who seeks...... Washing with water was for purification, the priest, before Christ did such as this, and even those during Christ time did..... IF you read the Gospels of Mathew, Mark , Luke and John, you will see most traditions of the Jewish people were still being done... and Jesus also practised a lot of them, such as washing of the feet, when entering a home, etc..... What people fail to see is the fact, things did NOT change until AFTER the cross, the cross changed EVERYTHING !!!! This was NEW covenant ground.......... While Jesus was on earth, in flesh, he followed the traditions and laws, they had NOT changed yet........... According to the OT and the first 4 gospels, the New Kingdom was comming in there and then, BUT , Jesus was rejected, so it got put on hold, for lack of better words, ........ If you notice Jesus delt only with the Jews, with exceptions....... Jesus/God was NOT a sinner, when Baptised, that was his HUMAN side showing the world obediance of that side to the Father....... more to it than that, but I would need hours and a more space..... hope this helps you to at least get some idea...... go in peace....... God bless

Baptism as practiced by the Jewish was a sign of a person commitment to follow God. If they had sins, they were to turn away from them at that time. The Jews of that time often practiced multiple baptism, with people redoing it each time they made a new commitment or felt a fresh calling from God.

When Jesus was baptized, it was to show that he was committing himself at that time to begin the work of his ministry. This is confirmed by the voice of God which proclaimed that Jesus was His Son.

In Jewish society, the proclaiming of sonship means that the son is now to be treated as an equal with his father. He has all the same rights, powers and authority as the father. At the baptism, God was proclaiming that Jesus had all the same authority that He did. That is why the Holy Spirit, who is the one who gives power, came and settled on Jesus.

So it was not a purification, but a declaration of Jesus beginning his ministry, and God endorsing it and empowering it.

Baptism is not just for purification, but also taking upon yourself the name of god, following his commandments, It is an act of humbling yourself to his will. We are purified at baptism, but after we also need to follow his commandments, or it wont even matter. Baptism is a step to full repentance. Now, Christ was not a sinner, but He was an examplar. It was then, and still is now a commandment from God to be baptized. Christ showed us that by example. By following His Fathers will and showing us the way. An interesting side note. Christ walked 40 miles to be baptized by John. Not by the so called church athorities, namely Pharassies. There was a certain authority that John had. The authority to baptize. We still need that.

Sorry, no. If you read the text you will see that this anointing was to commission Jesus for his ministry. The Holy Spirit descended onto him at that time and stayed with him, and simultaneously the voice of God the Father was heard saying "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased." This is where God reveals that he is one God with three persons, Father, Son, and Spirit.

John tried to prevent Him saying "I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?" But Jesus said to him, "Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Than he permitted Him.
Matthew 3;14-15.
There was no need for purification of Jesus.
Jesus did this as an example to us.

Don't worry about the "small print", I guess you didn't bother reading even the "big" print!

You ask rebellious questions to try to discredit God, but if you bothered to read His Word, even a cursory glance would answer that.

You have the answer - it's in the Bible. Just READ it before asking inane questions.

No, and you really need to get into reading your Bible to understand the question that you asked. Just try reading the Book of Matthew to try to get an understanding of what being baptized is really all about.

Baptism is not for purification. It is an out expression of our inward acceptance.

Of course not. Jesus was baptized as part of a Jewish rite. Not because He was a sinner.

God bless
