Just to add some additional info to previous. When one uses the word cement, the generally implied meaning is Portland Cement. However, cement can be any variety of substances used to bond an aggregate together. Example: many roads are made with Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) however a greater percentage is made with Asphalt Cement Concrete (ACC)

The name 'Portland' is from the island of Portland in Dorset. Portland Isle has a number of disused quarries that used to make Portland limestone.
Portland limestone is often used to face public buildings. However, some of the limestone was used to make cement, hence the name.
