The foil wrapper was off one of those pricier larger dark chocolate bars. The piece she swallowed (I believe) was maybe a 1/2 inch square. It doesn't seem to be true aluminum foil, so I didn't call a doctor or anything, assuming it would come out in the end. Am I correct in that or should I contact her pediatrician?

No worries... you (she) should be fine.
Children tend to swallow things... bead, pennies... etc.

It will all pass.

You are a good mom to be so concerned--but this time you're OK. Believe me!

Please excuse the comparison but small children are like puppies--they love to explore AND put things in their mouths. And, it's amazing what they will try. Especially things that have been accidentally dropped on the floor, like rubber bands, paper clips and so on. They are so close to floor level that they see things that we have missed. And, of course--food items. It isn't unusual for a small child to eat a whole foil wrapped candy like a chocolate kiss or a Dove individual candy. It passes.

Kids will also put things in their noses and ears like beans, coins, small toy parts, buttons, etc. also so be careful.

well.. i wouldn't be concerned about the chocolate... and i really don't think that a small piece like that of the foil will hurt.. I think it will pass. if it isn't even real foil.. it will probably dissolve. I don't think that the doctors would do anything about it.. i don't see them operating, or pumping her stomach for it... there isn't anything that they would be able to do.... you'll probably see it in her diaper in a few days.

I think you should at least call the doctor about it. I ate a nickel when I was little and poor mom had to dig through my poop for 2 weeks. This sounds like something that should go right through but I strongly advise you to call a professional and put their word over ours. She is only one. I swalled a nickel at 5. Had to go in for an xray.

If that is all she accidently swollows in her little life time, you can rest easy.

It isnt anything to be conserned about, or call the doctor over. Rest assured, like all digested food, it will pass!
