so long as you are providing more than 50% of her upkeep and she does not make a significant amount of money then yes you can claim her....she can make up to around $5100 and not owe taxes which means she would get back everything she paid in.....you, of course would get her personal exemption.....now heres what i mean by a significant anount of money.....hypothetically lets say you make $35k annually and she makes $3k....you could, of course safely claim her,.....but if she were to make $12k then you may have a problem because the average person in certain areas can maintain on their own for that amount of money

As long as you are providing her shelter for over 1/2 the year, and she is under the age of 18, she can still be claimed as a dependent.

If she lives with you at least half of the year and doesn't provide over half of her own support, then yes you can still claim her. So your answer is almost surely yes.

She can only claim exempt on her W-4 if she expects to make under $5350 for the year. And if she makes over that (not $3500 like one person said) she has to file a return. If she makes less than that but they take anything out for federal income tax, she can file a return and get it refunded.

yes. as long as she is living in your house and is under the age of 18 she is considered a dependant. she can also claim exempt on her taxes and get it all back. if she doesnt then you can not claim her as a dependent.

Yes, she has to be either under age 19, or student and under age 24 for you to be able to claim her.

Yes. She should be claiming exempt on her W-4 because she is a student. If she makes under $3,500 (05-06 tax year) she won't have to file taxes. Consult a professional to get all the info.

Yes.

As long as she doesn't provide more than half of her own support, you can claim her.

Remember though, when she files her return next year, she will not be able to claim herself on the return.
