Religion does that to a lot of people. It tries to imply your are evil at every turn and that you are not worthy of God's love.
Your probably a very regular, nice, everyday person.
Don't feel bad. Don't give those sick people the satisifaction. It's mind control 101. They're trying to pass on the guilt-disease.
Good question, thanks for sharing your experience. By the way I did the same thing when I was in confession. That was the last time I ever went, the last time I ever will. I'm a nice person and I try my best.
I'm happy with that.

First off, no one is without sin. Secondly, anyone who thinks they don't sin not only has a pride problem, but also suffers from magical thinking. Kids sin all the time, they covet other kids toys, looks, clothes, etc., and I'm sure you were no exception, and lastly, you admit you lied in confession, and then say you have never sinned. Magical thinking yet again.

I'm not a Catholic, so therefore I've never had to confess my sins to a priest.
I confess my sins to the High Priest and that's God!
Also, I am just thinking, if you had to make up a sin, that's a lie, and wouldn't a lie be a sin?
I can understand your frustration too about following a religion.
Religion is empty and void. Christianity isn't.
God is real and so is His Son.
The bible says, if we are willing to ask for forgiveness, then God is willing to forgive us.
We don't have to go to man to ask for forgiveness and that includes a priest in the Church.
We can go to the Father.
We can ask for forgiveness/confession of sins in our room or wherever.
And, yes, we all have sinned. The bible says so,
it says that "All have sinned and fallen short of God's glory.
Bless you and praying you will find the truth.

This may not answer your question directly but confession is what the Apostles understood Jesus to mean when He said: "Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise and walk'? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" --he then said to the paralytic, "Rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home." He rose and went home.
When the crowds saw this they were struck with awe and glorified God who had GIVEN SUCH AUTHORITY TO HUMAN BEINGS.(Matt 9:6)
Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! AS THE FATHER HAS SENT ME, I AM SENDING YOU." And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."
Jesus gave the power of forgiving sins to the Apostles in the same manner as He forgave. To know which sins to bind and which to loose they needed to hear what these sins were from the sinners...Hence Jesus instituted the Sacrement of Reconciliation which has been continued throughout the ages to today through Sacrament of Confession.
God Bless
Robin
PS
Lying is a sin...therefore you have sinned, in the confessional no less. Those who say they are without sins are lyars (from one of the letters of John).

You sin in your thoughts you sinned when you referred to catholic school as being hell. Everyone has sinned in some form or fashion. SINNED: A transgression of a religious or moral law, especially when deliberate.
Theology
Deliberate disobedience to the known will of God.
A condition of estrangement from God resulting from such disobedience.
Something regarded as being shameful, deplorable, or utterly wrong. For example: TELLING the lie that you haven't sinned is a sin. I wouldn't lie in confession because if it's true what they say about going straight to hell I'm not willing to hurry up the process!!

LOL!
My cousin did exactly the same thing when he went for confession before his first communion. (they were obviously raised Catholic)
He couldn't think of any sins that he thought were good enough, I suppose, so he made up a story about stabbing his brother with a pencil numerous times.
The priest couldn't have possibly believed him, I don't think.
EDIT: Oh, Red, yours beats mine by a long shot, I think. Lol.

There is a much more effective and simple way to come to God. By praying to the Father (God) in the name of Jesus, you can establish a better understanding of and communication with Him. Confess your sins to God. No one else can see into your heart or forgive you.
Jesus is His ONLY intercessor. Not Mary, Moses, John, or Paul. God's word is very clear about this. His word is perfect and complete. It never changes. Being taught otherwise is blasphemy.
God bless

Lying in confession pretty much defeats the purpose of confession. And I have a very hard believing you have never committed a sin, as I understand the definition. No ones perfect.

However, I couldn't come up with a sin, because I hadn't and still have not sinned, so I made several up, and told the priest that..."
thinking that you were without sin... there's one. lying to the priest, there's another.
Guess you're not as perfect as you think. None of us are without sin.

lying is a sin. I am sure you have committed SOME sin in your life: white lie, looking at other's papers for answers, been disobedient, had bad thoughts that if acted out would be sinning.....No one is perfect, you had to have sinned. Lying in confession is like lying to God and we can't lie to God because He knows better.
