Worship the only true God, it says in the scriptures, and no it is not a cult... That is opinion... Not fact... God does not force us to do anything we don't want.... But he states his laws for us... Obedience is hard for all of us born... As we have been born into sin....
A flag is a peace of material. It cannot save our lives... God is the only one who can save our lives... The president can't save us, my hubby can't save me, it comes down to my own personal relationship with God....
Neutrality is important too... LOVE see's NO color, or race.... God reads our hearts, and the the language of truth can be understood by all who want and have hope in HIM....

You have some truly great answers here from my brothers and sisters.
So I will add this small note, the word allegiance means to worship. As Jehovah's Christian Witnesses, we take to heart all the scriptures, not just those that are convenient.
When I was a child, I read Exodus 20:2-7. Being Mormon at the time, I asked the Elders and the Arch Bishop why the federal and state flags were inside the church. I was nearly excommunicated for it.
So when my mom left, I did to and attended other Church's where they too had the federal and state flags inside the churches so I asked the Reverends and Minsters about it and other questions as well regarding the holidays not being mentioned in the bible, were they approved by God? Needless to say, my mom was told that I was a trouble maker and should stay home.
When I turned 18, Jehovah's Witnesses who were then calling on my grandmother stopped by for a visit.
That was 31 years ago, I've been baptized for the last 28 years.
Please, call or go to your local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and ask for a free home bible study.
You will be amazed at what you will read and comprehend from the bible.

Rote pledges of allegiance are meaningless. What people do is more important than what they say, especially if what they say is just a formality.
Jehovah's Witnesses obey the laws and respect the constituted authority of each nation in which we reside.
What does the flag stand for? Does it not stand also for freedom of conscience and freedom of religion?
Then if a person wishes to reserve allegiance to God only, the flag should be a guarantee of that.
And in fact, the U.S. Supreme court ruled long ago that conscientious objection to saying pledges to the flag is a protected right.
So, we respect the flag by obeying the laws and principles it stands for.

They interpret the harlot who rides the beast story in the book of Revelation this way:
The harlot represents all other religions of the earth, other than theirs (because they have fornicated with the kings of the earth). The beast represents the governments of the earth (ruled over by "kings", though titles for leaders vary of course).
Hence; to pledge allegiance to a flag = fornicating with the beast, or in other words serving Satan.

I am a Jehovah's Witness and my Wife and I were baptized in 1996. I used to salute the flag until I studied the Bible and learned to think like Christ. Would Jesus salute the Flag of any Nation? All worship should go to his heavenly Father Jehovah. We respect the flag but we do not pledge allegiance to the flag.

This is one interpretation of the passage about being in this world but not of this world. It is not the one that most people take though. Involvement in politics is one that I believe may help keep this world on track by speaking in the political arena about what God would want. Clearly, this is not an official position of the Watchtower. I am not a member of this cult and disagree with much of what these people say.

Our allegiance is only to Jehovah God. No government on earth can put an end to this system of things, that's God's job so we only pledge ourselves to Him.

Because we give our allegiance to God alone, and instead of putting trust in man's governments, we put trust in God's Kingdom, which is the only answer to man's problems. But, we do respect others' wishes to salute the flag. While they pledge allegiance, we stand quietly during the flag salute ceremony.

Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and give to God what is God's.
Our government does not hold their allegiance. They have a point in the parallels it holds with religion in some respects. But while they are not interested in any loyalty to our country and our way of life, they are still protected citizens in spite of that belief -- not because of it.

Jehovah’s Witnesses put their allegiance to God's goverment rather then man's.
Jhn 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world.

We don't pledge allegiance to the flag because we consider that as worshipping the Government, when we worship Jehovah God alone. We respect the Government, but we don't worship it.
