It's called a Cat Hat. Some cats love this, they sleep by you and your hair feels like fur to them, it's very comforting.

It's when they start making you slide off the pillow so they can get it all to themselves that the problems start. Otherwise it's usually ok.

Cats like the warmth of your body to curl up on top of. I think they choose the head when you are sleeping because the hair makes a nice soft spot and is warm. Laying on your head must feel like laying on your lap. Think about it! Also, the cat probably finds it is easier to breath there than under the blanket where it also would be warm. My cat used to do it too!

Im not sure how old your cat is but mine has done that since he was a small kitten. I don't know the actually reason for it. My cat seems to do it as a cuddling thing. But he seems to do that mostly in the morning so maybe its a feed me thing.
Or more likely your cat loves you and wants to sleep close to you.

My cat does the same thing. I think he can feel the warmth coming off the top of my head while I'm sleeping. Just a theory--I have three and he's the only one that does it.

Your cat found a comfortable spot and has decided that is the place he/she wants to be. I had a cat that would sleep there too. I'd wake up and she'd be curled around my head. Loved that.

I had a cat that always slept right next to my head. Don't know why. The cat I have now he doesn't but he does have to be laying up against me. He can be a cover hog too.

ive always wondered why cats do this, i have two, one is almost 2, ive had her since she was big enough to fit in my hand and the other isnt quite a year, but BOTH of them sleep above my head, its cute at first, but now i feel like i have a fur hat that weights 25lbs! my oldest cat is a fat @$$ so it gets very uncomfortable sometimes and the other one purrs and she sounds like a damn motorboat above me. lol but i love them and i love it when they curl up next to me at night to sleep, something about it is reasuring in a way. but im curious as to why cats do this, they dont have to, but they do. maybe its there way of showing them they love you and want to be AS CLOSE to you as possible LOL

Who knows why cats do anything:) one theory: it is absorbing your brainwaves in order to control you better:) My cat for example loves to take a nap on open books. I think, he is absorbing the words through his fur and will one of these days use his accumulated knowledge to overthrow the government and bring world peace to humanity (one can always hope!)
