They are discontinuing them in the US so they can ship the 80 gig ones. Yes the 80 gig ones which are $600 now will be reduced next year for the GTA IV release.

Sony will eventually stop making the 60GB PS3. I think that they have already stopped making it, but i'm not 100% sure. To me, the price for the 60GB version is low enough for the moment. I read somewhere that once all of the 60GB PS3's are sold, the 80GB PS3's price might drop, but it will probably only drop to $499. I doubt that the 60GB PS3 price will drop anymore, but if the price were cut, it wouldn't be a big price drop because the 20GB PS3 is still sold for $449.

As far as I know they are NOT discontinuing the 60gig models. It's the 20gig that they will no longer make and the 60gig is taking it's place. the 80gig is taking over for the 60.

Or they might have just decided to do away with both and just keep the 80gig, but I dought it because thier sales have shot up a lot since the price drop on the 60gig and the 80gig will cost as mich as the 60 did before, which will mean that sales might slump again.
