After my own crazy experience of trying to plan my wedding which will be October 13th... I figured there are probably others out there that like me, want to cater their own wedding. Well, my future husband has been a chef for 11 years and we decided that other people may have use for a book (we are in the process of writing it) that includes easy to follow, but elegant recipes with menu suggestions so that people can cater their own weddings without having to put out all the crazy expense of having a company do it. Included would be set up ideas for displaying the food, as well as garnishing ideas. Each with step by step details to make it easy for the less experienced! Would you have a use for this book? Would it make planning for your big day easier? What would you expect to pay for this type book?

I would never recommend it for a wedding but for people wanting to cater other functions themselves absolutely...catering your own wedding is insane and totally loses the whole point of the day...CELEBRATING YOUR UNION WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY...how can you celebrate with friends and family and enjoy yourself when you are running, cooking and prepping and fretting over food all day?...

Okay, I was actually considering this option myself, but have finally decided against it. You'll have to make sure you cover things other than just preparing the food. Let's face it, the caterer does a LOT - from setting the tables to cutting the cake and cleaning up afterwards. You'd have to make sure to cover that aspect of the catering as well. Obviously no one expects the bride to stick around and pick up trash, so.... someone has to do it.

Yes, I think this book could be very useful, but check around. Does such a book already exist? Do several? If so, you may be fighting a losing battle. Try to find out how many copies those books have sold and what yours would offer that sets it apart. As for price, the publisher sets that. I would expect it to be in the same range as most other "wedding planning" books - probably $15-20.

You might consider offering this as an online book with different recipes for different seasons. I'd plan a much different menu for the spring then I would for the fall or winter. There is an audience for this type of information judging from the questions I've seen here. Between $25.00 and $30.00 seems reasonable. Information regarding rentals things like amounts of beverages needed, how to cut a cake. How to hire someone to help out with clean up would be useful.

I wouldn't get a book like that...my mom is a caterer and I don't want to be concerned about the food for my wedding...I want to enjoy my guests and not have to give a single thought to the food preparations.

I can see it going over well, though, and not just for weddings. People seem to think it's difficult to prepare a great meal for 100, but it's a piece of cake, if you have a system! I think a book like that would be great for larger party planning,,,about $29.99 or so.

I'd buy it - but absolutely not for catering my own wedding. I would have too much last minute stuff to do right before the ceremony - hair, makeup, nails etc. Adding putting garnishes on 60 dinner plates to that mix would be out of the question.

however, as a jump off point for catering OTHER PEOPLE's weddings - yeah I'd add that to my collection.

I wouldn't buy the book simply because I'm already married and would prefer weddings catered by reception hall professionals.

But I can relate, my husband was a pastry chef and he made our wedding cake for the big day.

Since we have about 100 people attending, catering myself is not an option. That would create more stress. There are too many other things to take care of without worrying about food.

But if the recipes are unique and fantastic (my fiance and I are foodies, so we take food and its presentation seriously) I might consider using it for dinner parties. I would pay $35. I need a good olive tapenade recipe.

No, wouldn't use it at all. The only people who I can see using such a book are those who aren't chefs, but who want a budget wedding - and then they would usually go with pretty basic, but lovely, items for a buffet.

Heavens no! I would never use such a book. I was so busy and stressed out enough with all the other preparations. I wished I had hired a planner from the beginning. I can't imagine adding that much stress on to myself.
