I live in Javea on Spain's Costa Blanca. It is on the coast and we have very little violence here. Crime (mostly burglaries) were quite commonplace, but there have been a lot of Guardia Civil and Local Policia on patrol just recently and the burglaries seem to have died down quite a bit. It is amazing what police presence can do. Especially here. They don't ask too many questions when they arrest someone. You just don't mess with them. I think the U.K. police could learn a lot from them. I don't think "Political Correctness" cr @p is in their vocabulary ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Hello. It will improve when they go back to School, Does this help? Local coppers who know the area well would be a advantage. Fine the Parents of them that are to young to be Prosecuted this might make them aware of their responsibilities to their children and indeed the local community.Name and shame or move them all to same area what was the practice once in my town when they found it was hell living among themselves many grew up fast and become good hard working people who gained respect from all. If you work for something it's enjoy all the more. Back to the question more coppers NO we knew the names of ours came in for a cuppa tea they showed they were human and not factory made. hope this makes sense for you.ps Mr was their first name.

I live just outside of Detroit, Michigan and a few months ago a guy shot the clerk dead at a 7-Eleven convenience store over the price of a stale taco. The poor man was a father who was working three jobs to support his family and was killed for a mere 16 cents! What does that tell you??

P.S.--The police later caught the SOB and he was tried and found guilty. He claimed that he was high on drugs at the time.

I live in a rural village in Devon and the crime beggars belief. It's worse than a lot of cities and we NEVER see our Police Officer. He reports all the crimes to the Parish Council as "incidents". He's a laughing stock in the village.

In Minneapolis we would rather build waste our money on "green roofs" and a $40 MILLION central library then spend money on more beat cops.

Meanwhile, crime is spiking here, homacide is up and the boy mayor says he cant hire more officers because of the loss of LGA from the state of Minnesota.

But who cares if crime is up? We have a "green" city!

Where I live in East London has a bad reputation. I would not like to be a young person as there are gangs.
So far, nothing bad has happened to my family. I don't think anyone in this street has been hurt, mugged or burgled.
We do have community bobbies, but you don't see them around at night.
I think people worry more than they need to.

Not too bad here (to the west of Central Edinburgh) - I've only seen a couple of incidents in the past 12 years and both were football related.

My village used to be a lovely rural village, now its like a war zone, fights, robberies, etc etc, the police patrol and move people on but they never seem to punish anyone. Its gone so far downhill people are moving out in droves.

i run a residents association on a dog rough council estate, where, due to social deprivation, and lack of employment opportunities one would expect our little hellhole to be swamped with ASBo's, it isnt, we have had a few murders, and thats really it... our kids dont do vandalism, coz weve nothing to vandalise, our kids dont do rascism, everyone is an outsider, 50yrs ago this was all fields, open countryside and woodland... all in the shadow of the peugeot works at ryton in coventry... and now thats gone, replaced with a littlewoods distribution centre...

and more coppers just make the place like a ghetto... which it isnt... more coppers wont stop one off incidents... and more coppers wont do anything to stop you lot being terrified and paranoid about your own safety.

crime, or the fear of crime is wholly disproportionate to the actual levels of crime, percieved or reported... its just scaremongering tactics, to persuade you (the gullible) that you need to spend thousands of pounds on needless, nay, useless security systems...

we dont get attacked in our homes, we dont get attacked in our cars... in fact, who was the last ADULT you know of who was attacked...

im more worried about my daughters being attacked... and when you move the kids on, where do you want them to go? what do you want them to do? let me guess, you dont care, do you? kids congregate, they always have, and they always will, the kids only respond to adults, they very rarely instigate the troubles.

as we seem to have gotten older, we have become a bunch of moaning intolerant know it alls... and we forget, that WE had real freedoms, which todays kids can only dream about....
