My Plasma Flat Screen HD TV gets hot. This is probably normal, right? My question is, my daughter likes watching TV when she goes to bed and if turned off, she wakes up. Is it ok for this TV to be left on for 4-8 hours straight?

The bulbs/lamps, and in this case, the power needed to energize the phosphorous gas filled bubbles is causing heat & the life of this is severely diminished by the hour after hour of continual use. They should only be on when being watched. Plasma TVs take more power to run than either LCD or DLP. Run a radio in her room instead of that expensive TV.

Yes plasmas get hot. This is normal. Therefore you should make sure that there is adequate ventilation for the set and that it is not near any heat sources. The TV can be left on for many hours without harm (after all, the tv's are left on all day at the stores). The only thing that you might have a problem with is electricity costs. Plasmas suck up a lot of juice. My 42" Panasonic plasma uses almost 400 watts. Thats like having four 100 watt light bulbs on.

It isn't the heat I would worry about. Like you guessed that is normal. However, over time the color on a plasma tv will begin to fade. Depending on who you ask this can be in 5-10 years with average use. The more you use this TV the faster the color will begin to fade. It is up to you if this is worth the risk of your TV not lasting as long.

GIVE her a fan....it works just as well as a TV set for white noise....

Better yet, give her a "babbling brook" clock...it consumes LESS power...

Those plasmas can consume 300 to 500 watts per hour...

A clock is about 7 watts....

Give her a week or two to adjust....they always whine about not getting one night of sleep, but don't let that get to you...Eventually they will fall asleep and they will ADAPT....

I HAD to adapt....they can too...

And WHY is it men kiss their Wive's / Daughter's Power-Hoggy axxes to make them HAPPY huh?? Why ? Why not make YOU HAPPY instead?

You ADAPT...You OVERCOME. Let Them adapt too.....
