No, Romanian is a beautiful, fascinating language that is basically only used by native speakers. These speakers may be in Romania, the Republic of Moldova, or even some parts of Serbia or Ukraine, but the language is not taught as a foreign language at the K-12 level with the exception of a few Hungarian language schools in Romania that educate in Hungarian but teach Romanian as a way to help Hungarian native speakers communicate with the Romanian speaking majority. Romanian is not a "Lingua Franca" that people of other languages learn in school and can use to communicate as a shared medium such as Mandarin Chinese, English, French, German or Russian. Romanian is a fascinating language and I am a proud speaker of it, but it will never gain popularity among non-native speakers, and that's okay, because many young Romanian speakers have learned another language such as Spanish, English or Italian and that helps them to compete in the world market.

I have no idea how that will ever be so since it's not that popular. But my boyfriend is of Romanian descent and when he tries to speak it [he doesn't know how], it's really sexy <3 I'm planning on learning the language myself :)

The most popular languages nowadays are English, Chinese, Spanish, and French.

Haha, I hope not. I love being able to speak Romanian in other countries and no one else understands my family (other than the occasional other Romanians at the grocery store). I don't think it will ever become as popular as English, Spanish or French. It's spoken particularly in only one country and few other regions.

Probably not.

I would, however, take issue with Senorita*xxO who, as a Romanian, should be aware that her language is the official language of TWO countries; Romania and the Moldovan Republic. (Forget the arguments about whether Romanian and Moldovan are different languages: even the Moldovan government in their official website asdmits that the Moldovan language is Romanian).

It's a beautiful language. I've always found it interesting and the Finnish linguist Val Kiparsky once called it "THE most interesting language in the world. "

However, it will never become a very popular language. Romania is a victim of its geography; a landlocked country that has been under foreign domination throughout most of its history. Romania has also never founded any overseas colonies like England, France, Spain and Portugal all did.
