Like Wolf said... My personal favorite starter book on Zen is written by martial arts potpouri-ist Joe Hyams, called "Zen in the Martial Arts." It's short, cheap, well written, and isn't wrong. After that, try getting a book of Koans. Here are some taught in Isshinryu Karate, available online.

Try "The Unfettered Mind" a collection of letters from Zen Monk Takuan Soho to the Tokugawa clan's swordmaster Yagyu Munenori, both friends of the legendary japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
