I wouldn't say that I've been mean, per se, but I can dish out a bit more honesty than people may be looking for from time to time.

Well, you know what they say about the truth hurting.

And it does feel good, because sometimes I just get sick of listening to the garbage that comes out of some people's mouths and I've just got to shut them up, at any and all costs. But it's not in a "HA! I just made you feel bad and I like it" kind of a way, because I really don't like seeing people hurt and I don't go around hurting people just for the heck of it. I like to help people feel BETTER, not worse. Even if it's a person I don't neccessarily care for. It's more in a "Thank God you've finally shut your trap" kind of a way. Sometimes you've just got to do it.

I can be blunt, too, and IMO some people need the wake up call every once in a while. Possibly not my place, but when the ignorance is being spewed in my face I feel the responsibility to shut it down.

And I don't always regret it, either.

You don't have to read much in Y/A to learn that many people have decided that expressing an unpopular opinion in clear, blunt terms is "MEAN."

I don't think so. "MEAN" to me is enjoying the suffering of others...and thus intentionally doing things that CAUSE suffering.

So that being said, I don't really care if someone thinks I'm "mean" if I've just pointed out the facts or opinions they've requested.

If more people were blunt in word yet polite in action, would society be a nicer place?

Yes I have ripped some people a new one and it did feel good but I DID NOT regret it. Why should I regret insulting ignorant people.

It takes a lot to get me to that point, but once I've reached it, it usually feels quite wonderful to rip a well deserving person a new one. I usually go for maximum ripping power in those situations. To be quite honest, I generally don't regret it, because the situations tend to resolve themselves afterwards.

Actually, I was once truthful in my words to a co-worker, and it felt good, because I believe she was corrected in some way over it.

It felt good, because she had been acting beligerantly towards me for WEEKS, then she dragged ME into HR to complain about me !

After she had her little rant, I got to tell MY side of the story,. She kept interupting me, and trying to prevent me from telling my side. She made a total A $ $ of herself, and all I did was tell the truth.

Yeah, that felt GOOD ! And I wasn't mean at all, just professionally stated the facts.

Yes indeed. I have a neighbor who wanted to preach to me about how to raise my children. I put up with her BS for a few months, then finally, she said something about my poor baby was fat because mommy never lets her play outside (after she accused me of neglecting my 8 year old because I let him play outside in the yard alone).

So...I lost it on her. It felt really great, and I was functionally drunk too, so that made it feel even better. She hasn't spoken to me since, but I still make sure my dog poops in her yard occassionally...

Blunt yes, purposefully mean? A few times, and yes, they deserved and earned that treatment.

And no, if I'm pushed that far, I don't regret what I said.

Yeah, and it does feel good. Sometimes I regret what I say, but not when I was screaming at my ex-husband and told him what i really thought of him and his new girlfriend. That felt GOOD.

As you said, at the time it feels good, but then sometimes (not always ) I regret it.
