when i spar i get cornerd and i cant escape, we aernt in a ring where on some mats but when i go off the mat i get like 20 pushups
how do i stop getting cornerd and land some fast kicks punches towards my opponent

when i soot in i telegraph it realy bad and i get stuffed
would you try and throw or get in a clinch with someone who does chinese wrestling, shuia jiao, i tried it by thinking evryone has a chance but i got threw on the flor hard like a biatch

what would you do, any tips

Take control....either attack them first or if you are forced to back up, back up in a circular motion. If you back up straight, you'll always end up off the mat.
When you attack make sure you look "through" your opponent not where you are about to attack, that's the worse telegraph there is. Pick a spot on their throat or somewhere comfortable for you and look at that. Peripheral vision is better anyway.
Develop quickness (plyometric is good way to do this).
Find 3-4 techniques that work well for you and perfect them until you can do them in your sleep, with expertise and confidence.

Then go for it. Kick some butts!!!

First of all, to keep from getting cornered, you need to learn to use you ring. Don't be afraid to run around, to the side, or behind the guy. I've noticed in sparring, a lot of people just go straight, head on to the opponent. Even though this is the quickest way to get to an opponent, it's not always the best.
If you are already cornered, for a stand up move, it's best to do a back kick. It's your longest weapon against the closest target. However, since you're doing a mixed martial arts, drop low and do a sweep. I'm not sure what the legal moves are, but if Pankration/Judo throws are allowed. Drop low, grab one of your opponents ankles, and take it with you which ever side you need to go.
To avoid telegraphing your moves, get faster! Run with a weighted vest right before training, you'll notice that you have a burst of speed as soon as you take the vest off. And then you'll get tired and slow down. But eventually, it will stick. It's even better to train with the weighted vest.
The problem with most mixed martial artists is that they have trained so hard on grappling, that they have gained big bulky muscles at the cost of speed, so the way to get over on them is be faster than them. I used to train with Pride Fighters, and I was better than them because I was faster.

well getting cornered is a sign of a defensive fighter and shooting is an offensive fighters move...u need to figure out what type of fighter u are...i'm assuming this is mixed matrial arts fighting...i have been cage fighting for a little over a year now in a very small local league...my advice is that when people crowd u that u should push and punch/kick its a technique that when a guy gets close you push him away either physically or with fakes then as they back up u strike..also if you get cornered just go crazy kicking and throwing til they back up..i spar with a guy much smaller than me and when he gets cornered he goes crazy with punches and kicks making u back up ..its very effective to make a person give him room...shooting isn't for everyone and you only get better with practice but make sure you are setting up the shot by using different levels..start with a high punch then right into a shot..chinese wrestling relies on many throws and takedowns so your best bet would be to stay on your feet..but if you do lock up use a duck underto get behind the person chinese wrestling has no defense for back attacks...try some of these and if you have any questions send me an email..good luck

Circle, Circle, Circle.

If a guy is charging at you circle to his weak side (i.e. left side if he is right handed, right side if he is left handed) you have got to work angles period. Moving straight only makes you a target. Also, you can use a clinch not to just get stuck there.

Clinch up step hard to the weak side and put his back out to the corner, then break clinch and work from there.

You sound new, and this is just something that comes with experience, pretty much everyone backs up when they are first starting, it takes time and learning to know to circle when an opponent is coming at you with a barrage.

Cover up, circle out. Or clinch up and turn him around. If he is a better grappler than you break the clinch asap, use it just to move him.

Forget what 90 percent of the above posters say.

Here is where I make enemies..

WJ: Sacrifice throw is a bad idea unless you are REALLY good at them, you can end up with you on your back and an opponent on top of you, plus very few sacrifice throws work with no gi.

XFinnX: One question, how can you be great at grappling if you rarely spar? I notice all your answer say something about grappling... you some sort of cam girl/troll, or into "grappling?"

rudey: Good luck in your upcoming match, but going crazy when cornered can get you K.O.'d quick by an experienced striker who will use those openings to slide in an accurate controlled punch and finish you off.
Also not sure about offensive and defensive fighters? As a fighter you have offense and defense. There are guys who are good counter punchers, but a fighter who is just defensive will probably lose 90 percent of the time. Shooting can be very defensive also.

ritejoker: I call BS on 90 percent of your answer, you trained with Pride Fighters? When? You were better than them?Grapplers are bulky? Why aren't you making thousands of dollars as a Pro fighter then?Wow, most people who are grapplers are VERY slim and sleak. (I will stick with Pride Fighters since you trained with them) Antonio Nogeria (great grappler) Rickson Gracie, any of the Gracies for that matter, in fact most MMA fighter prefer lean muscle mass, not bulk.

In fact the few that are bulky are definately the minority and in general aren't that succesful.

Also wearing a weighted vest is bad training period, it doesn't make you faster, it only allows for the potential to damage your own joints. Definately never wear a weighted vest while training. It doesn't make you any stronger.


Well that is my tidbit, learn to circle against a charging opponent who is cornering you. Additionally you can shoot when their weight is up high, but you have to develop a good shot before it can be effective.

Keep hanging in there, you will get the hang of it, and it won't be too long till you are putting someone else in a corner.

CIrcle the ring. Ever watch a boxer or Bruce Lee fight?

they stay on their toes (balls of their feet) and keep moving and circle the mat making their opponent chase them and if they try to circle you then you just step to the side to cut them off.

you have to basically be in control of the mat and know where you are at all times by the feeling in your feet and of course your eyes.

It always worked for me.

When you spar can you incorporate grappling ? That usually worked for me because I was better using submission moves than fighting moves.

But - it sounds like you let your opponents corner you. When your timer (or whatever) starts, just go for it ... don't wait for them to make the first move. If you hesitate, they will just go at it and back you up. But also, move around a lot .. don't just walk backwards. Move side to side and in circles .. if you're nimble use that to your advantage.

Keep practicing and try to read your opponent. Work on some counters, some will be successful some wont. Make a concious effort at pursueing your opponent rather then defending yourself. If you feel intimidated at the beginning of the fight and think you will lose, you will lose.

Like everyone says, circle your opponent. Or if you have good acrobatic skills and are a Jet Li fanatic, you could try to somersault over your opponent to land behind him : P Good Luck with that though : D

Start hitting harder. That will make an aggressor think twice before rushing you. Also, don't forget about circling and leg checking. Putting your foot up against a taller opponent's thigh will usually make them have to reposition.

simple. one of the most basic rules of sparring. DONT BACK UP! step to the side, go in a cirle around your opponent. this is one of the very first thigns you will ever learn
