A sin is a sin, my friend! But remember God can forgive you of your sins if you ask Him to.

All sin is not the same to God. God has at least as much common sense as we do.

The idea that all sin is the same is a Protestant belief. The belief of the Catholic Church has always been that there are venial sins and mortal sins. A mortal sin is one that is so bad that committing it is equal to making a decision that you want nothing to do with God. These include such sins as murder and adultery. This is the kind of sin that sends you to hell. Venial sins are the more minor ones such as lying, which you will not go to hell for.

It's not all that simple, of course. I would have to give a lot more detail to be perfectly accurate. For example, premeditation makes any sin worse than one that is committed in the heat of the moment. But the simple answer is, a white lie (meaning one that is not intended to harm anyone) is not equal to Hitler's sin of attempted genocide.

This is ancient, long-established Christian doctrine.

The answer to your Question, Is a lie will, and has, lead to as great a sin, as you compare it too. Lie,s got Jesus crucified: and many others, deceiving got Jesus killed, and many others, just going against Him got him killed and many others , It is your spirit that leads you to kill , lie murder, steal, bare false witness, it will all torment in different ways, but who is to say if ones torment is greater then the other,s...! One dose not no until they have suffered what ones spirit cause,s ....And until you no then how can you judge, But judging is not up to us that is the point, it is up to God, what we think is not Important, because the thing,s that are Important to some are no concern to other,s...Why because, some have been through what they thought was important, and came to find out that it didn't matter after all, Called cause and effect..But that is why Jesus died own the cross for all Our sins, so we can have eternal life not eternal torment...God Bless us all..with your Mercy, if you don,t forgive you want be for -given.....God,s words

Sin is sin. It's the intent of the heart and soul that decides sin. If a person is mentally ill and feels they are doing good (and they MUST feel it is good for God), how can He condemn? In that case, it's a mental problem where the person has such a screwed up brain that they don't know better. I think God is much more forgiving than we are. We can't see into a heart. He can. I hate what Hitler did. It was horrendously horrible and I detest what he did to people. But I don't know how his mind worked. I judge his actions. I can't judge his soul because I don't know it. But God does. So I leave it to God to judge him and don't try to tell Him what to do.

Yes, sin is all the same. However, it is all in the motivation behind the lie. God "sees" right through your intent and "looks" at the core of the "problem".... It is not the act per say but the thing that gets you to that point of sin. Thats is why sin is all the same and looked at all the same. Even if you sin a "little" or a "lot"....and how you sin...it all doesn't matter.....

Good question. I have never been able to understand how lumping all sins together can be considered moral or even slightly reasonable.

I like the example of a teenage boy who sneaks a peek at a Playboy magazine vs. another teenage boy who brings a gun to school and kills a couple students and teachers. Anybody who considers these to be "all the same" is scary and dangerous.

There are mortal and venial sins. They are the serious to the less serious sins. They are all viewed as wrong in the eyes of God but "punishment" varies. Talk to a priest and he'll help put that into perspective especially when going to confession.

What is the opposite of a lie? It is truth, correct? God is
RIGHTEOUS and can NOT lie. We are to follow after the
examples of Jesus. The bible says that "Jesus Christ is
the way, the TRUTH and, the life". For you and I to question
the will of GOD is not right! Can the clay say to the potter
"Why have you made me as this or that?" You really need
to start reading the BIBLE and, get involved with a faith based
church. Sin is Sin!

No. Anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, that sin is unforgivable.

LUKE 12:10, "And everyone that says a word against the Son of Man, that will be forgiven; But he that blasphemes against The Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
MARK 3:29, "Whoever blasphemes against The Holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but is guilty of everlasting sin."
MATTHEW 12: 31-32 "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the age to come".

Also Christ mentions that anyone who harms a child, that it would be better if that person was not born.

Mt 18:6 - But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

I really think that there is a big sins and little sins. A person should not be measured the same for lying as a person who is killing.

In Christianity, yes. In Islam, no.

In Christianity, the wage of even the smallest of sins is "death" (unless Jesus saves you). In Islam, you just have to ask God for forgiveness and make amends.
