Its my sons birthday today, and he has a party tonight at 6. I was originally supposed to work today, but they told me this morning i could go home since its his bday. So were trying to have a special day today...we went to the park, went to the nature center, and stopped by the library. Now he's eating lunch and we need something to do after lunch. We just bought a house, so money is tight, so id prefer it was something free or close to it. Any ideas?

The library! He can choose books, a movie and play on the computer all for free.
Have fun!

Why don't the two of you read some books that you got from the library, talk about the party and watch some TV. Ask what he wants to do.

If you have a Denny's or some other kind of restaurant where they give you a free meal on your birthday, also Farrell's Ice Cream parlor and Baskin Robins, have the same deal!! And Happy Birthday son!

combine two of the above ideas, you need to do something to give him time to wind down, so the trip to the library where he can choose a book for you to read to him when you get home. give him cookies and milk, or whatever treat is usual, then get him to lie down for a nap. you can read him his book, he'll have a snooze, you'll have two minutes of relaxation before you start readying the house for his birthday.
have a great time and enjoy your boy, they grow up pretty darn quick!

If you live in town take him for a walk to the store or gas station and buy him a juice. Let him pick out a movie when you get home and watch it with him.

- Bubbles and balloon play - always cheap but fun (:
- Make a cake with him
- Have special one-on-one time where you play lots of games, sing, dance, etc.
- Art project
- Go look at (and pet!) pets in a pet store or Humane Society (explain visiting animals who don't have people to love them yet is a great gift to give to animals for your birthday!)
- Get a camera/video camera and enjoy his play/document it for future - he won't be this young again (:

I think any extra mommy and me time is great even without something to do. You have had a fun filled morning, how about reading to him and a nap. Then you can bake cookies together.

Maybe he could draw cards for the thank you cards he will need to write later...
You can also melt crayons-broken up pieces- in muffin tins to make crayon circles...mix up the crayon colors. Kind of fun.
