No, I don't think so. Whenever I get into an argument about something, it's because I have strong opinions. Don't get me wrong, even though I'm opinionated I don't go around voicing them every chance I get. However, if someone wants to argue with me that they think my opinion is "wrong", I'm going to argue back.

No. They are motivated by a different point of view or belief. I dont envy anyone, so none of my discussions are ever motivated by the green monster.

No, many of them are based on different experience or points of view. If I own property I will have a different viewpoint on expropriation that some one who does not. If I am married will probably be different than never married or divorced. If a 15 year old wants to cheat his way to getting a quick driver's license because he flunked a course, then I as a mature driver will feel differently about having him on the road than another 15 year old.

I'm sure some are. But not every one. Lack of education on the subject being argued is probably the main problem.

I think many are, but certainly not all. Other motivations could include annoyance, anger, depression, and many more.
