I'm guessing either poison ivy or poison oak.

Keep your fingers off it, don't scratch.

Without seeing the rash I can't tell you really what it is, but it is possible that you touched poison ivy, oak or sumac. Even if you don't have any directly in the area you were gardening, if there is some nearby an animal could have brought the oils with him and deposited it in your garden. If this is the case the oils can be on any of the close you wore or tools you used still. If you touched them since you can spread the rash. To be on the safe side wash all of the items... wearing disposable gloves while handling them... then wash your hands well.
Since the doctor gave you a steroid he suspects the rash is an allergic reaction. If you have changed any of your bath soaps, laundry soap or started any new meds right before the rash started then they may also be the culprit.
You can take an antihistamine to help with the itchiness and to speed along the healing process(like Benadryl or Claritin). Some antihistamines, like Benadryl, also make people sleepy, so take it at night and it can help you sleep. Claritin does not promote drowsiness, so you can take it during the day to stay awake.
Good luck.

You need a new doctor. One that understands the body and how it works. There are a lot of "C" students out there.

Your immune system is not performing well enough to handle the problem, so you are getting a rash. Typically, the skin acts like a third kidney when the kidneys get overwhelmed with toxins.

Most likely, something in the garden could have caused this reaction. Chemicals from insecticides, etc. can cause this. The following should help you get over the crisis, but you need to find a REAL doctor that understands you are interested in curing the problem, not just masking the symptoms and collecting his money for a 15 minute drive by and damaging your liver and other organs with that steroid just to support the life style of which he has become accustomed.

I suggest the following:

If it were me, I would not take the steroids.

I would go to the following web sites:

www.healthline.cc (not .com) order this:

Adrenal complex - take 9 of these capsules before noon. This will boost your adrenal gland and allow your body to handle the rash better.

Nucleotides - take 1 to 2 every hour for a few days. This puts your immune system into high gear.

Max stress "B" - take 1/2 tsp. first day, 1 tsp. second day, and 2 tsp. third day. Take it in juice or water. Sip it slowly. This is a "B" vitamin liquid that is in their "end chain" form that will go into your system and will actually be digested immediately, unlike the B pills sold everywhere that ends up coming out in your urine and taxing your kidneys.

DHLA --- this will get rid of ALL free radicals in your body and help speed the healing process.

www.roex.com ------ order the powdered colostrum. Take 1 heaping teaspoon in the a.m. and 1 heaping teaspoon in the evening. Put this in juice or distilled water.

www.natren.com/ ---- order the 3 in 1 probiotic. They will ship it to you overnight in dry ice. Take 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening.

This should solve the problem in a few days.

good luck to you

Well, you're obviously having an allergic reaction. The methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid that will help with the inflammation, but you need to be careful to stay away from the source. It might be poison oak or a similar plant, so look around your garden for suspicious plants.
