The only ones to know it is his birthday will be adults. Your little guy won't know, but you could take him for a walk, just spend time with him, enjoy him and show your love for him. People who think they have to throw a huge party and spend alot of money miss the whole point, it isn't a show it is showing how much you care that matters. Your son doesn't need you to spend money he needs you to spend time-with him. You can have a little cake with your husband and him over the weekend. Take pictures so he will see them when he gets older, and will know that you and his Dad cared and loved him. Congratulations, on having a son. It is the greatest feeling in the world.

kids at this age miss the whole idea of what is a birthday, but in his stage i'm sure he wants to get into every thing, so let him. Since your husband needs to work, you can always bake a cake and wait for your husband to come home and clebrate with you and the little one. Let your son enjoy getting into the cake, mess and all, take los of pictures because its not the party that's unforgetable but a picture capturese everything!

I was alone with my son on his first, too! We went out shopping in the afternoon, then to the park (Oct., it was cool) for a little bit to play and have a walk. For supper, he ate a whole cheeseburger and almost a whole order of small fries. Amazing! He walked two days later, then his dad came home two days after that, because he was working away from the city.

Go for a walk, go to the park, call up a friend of yours with a kid, let them have a play date. Give him a cupcake to tear in to. Watch his favorite movie. Play with his favorite toys. And take plenty of pictures :). Congrats. Happy Birthday little one.

Most overrated, and underappreciated birthday that a person will ever have. You don't have to celebrate the first one at all, if you don't want to. It's more about parental survival of the first year, than it is about the child's first birthday anyway!
