It depends on the resolution settings of your camera. For example, a 640x480 picture will take up much less space than a 2272x1704 picture. It also depends on the actual pixel make-up of the photo and how much jpeg compression is possible. At 2272x11704, I will get a file size anywhere between 1.3 MB and 3.5 MB with the majority being around 2.0 MB. At 2.0 MB each, your 1GB card will hold approx. 500 pictures.

There really is no finite answer for this as it depends on many variables. If you have your camera set in RAW mode, it will be much less than in low Jpeg mode. Typically, in Jpeg high mode and depending on subject matter, you should be able to take over 300 pics.
