Legally you cannot get a MILITARY ID because you are in the INACTIVE Reserves. If you are mobilized you will receive an ID card. BUT enrollement in DEERS is manditory. Most people dont understand the question....if a soldier is on active duty for 4 years he has a ID card....once active duty commitment is over and he not in the Res. or NG they lose their ID card for the remaining 4 years of IRR status. I am not suggesting illegal activities but this is the only way you can get one without being called back on active duty voluntary or involuntary.

DoD Directive 1000.22, "Uniformed Services' Identification (ID) Cards," October 8, 1997

E2.1.13. Individual Ready Reserve (IRR). Trained individuals who have previously served in the active component or Selected Reserve, and have time remaining on their Military Service Obligation (MSO). It also includes volunteers, who do not have time remaining on the MSO, but are under contractual agreement to be a member of the IRR. These individuals are mobilization assets and may be called to active duty under the provisions of Chapter 1209 of 10 U.S.C. (reference (k)). Issuance of DD Form 1173-1 to IRR dependents is mandatory. The IRR participates in the Guard and Reserve DEERS Enrollment Program.

You should have given more detail. In most cases regardless you can get an ID but it depends. Even if you get one it will have limited uses. As another said call the closest base or post and ask.

If you really want one go to the nearest recruiter and ask to directly sign up for the IRR for another term. You will usually not have to go anywhere since you are already qualified. Though they could call you up it would usually take whatever local unit to be called for you to be. No weekends or 2 weeks and you get to keep a reserve ID.

Yes they will call you all of the time and send letters. But you can volunteer to do some duty for a week or so stateside. You can help out at a local unit but again not obligated to go every month.

When you were placed in the IRR you should have received a set of orders placing you under the command of another HQ, you would want to contact them about this. I may be mistaken but being in Miami you were probably placed under the command of AR-Perscom in St. Louis. It just so happens I have their information right here.

However, in the name of OpSec, I don't want to post it on the internet, especially a site as militant as this one ;)

Email me and I'll give you what I've got.

To be honest with you I don't think that you're eligible to get a new CAC because technically you're not "in" the Reserves anymore. You're just on a reserve list for 2 years (if you signed the basic 6 and 2 year contract). Due to the fact that you do not support the military in any capacity in this state you are not eligible for the benefits that come along with it.

Still though, check with your new command. If you don't have a copy of your orders, check with your old unit, they should have a paper trail for you to follow. Good Luck.

You cannot get a US Military ID Card in Miami, Florida, since you are in the INACTIVE RESERVES STATUS. You would have to be in the Active Reserves or go back on ACTIVE DUTY!!!!

IRR doesn't get an ID. All they are required to do is provide yearly updates on location. IRR are entitled to NO benefits that would require an ID.

You probably have to go down to Homestead.

Call their ID section.

Go to your commanding officer. If you are really in the reserves then you will get one.
