Because religion has a way of turning people psycho... If you study it closely, you will note that 90% of serial killers are white males who were typically raised by single mothers who were religious zealots due to being left behind/abused/raped by some jerk...

Because when one is schizophrenic often they hear voices that seem very real to them. It's easy for them to jump to the conclusion that the voices are God's desires. So they do what these imaginary, but very real seeming voices tell them. They feel they are doing God's work.
This isn't true for all serial killers. It is true for those who are schizophrenic.
Others simply have no feelings, and they are curious about what will happen when they do what they do. They usually aren't even concerned about their own death. It's just a curiosity for them. Often they mimic other's expressions so they appear to be experiencing the correct feeling.
Peace

its not just religion. The son of sam blamed his dog. Charles Manson blamed reality. The long Island train killer blamed a chip implanted in his head and white people. I know you didn't say all blame relgion. My point is religion is just one excuse of many that nuts will try to come up with.

Which ones, Ted bundy was an atheist, Richard Ramirez (nightstalker) was a satanist, most satanist claim to be atheist, Jeffery domner was an atheist or evolutionist, so you need to name the person and the religion they claim to blame, I have studied serial killers for years and they blame evolution for their reason to kill.

Because religion is an easy way for a nut job to say "God told me to do it" or "The devil made me do it"

Now my question to you:

Why do most serial killers find God after they are serving life in prison? Does this mean they were atheist while they killing people?

Because many people portray religions as being cult-like. It's easy to excuse malicious behavior on religion because it's easier to put the blame on others than to accept responsibility themselves. It's easier to say "God made me do it" than it is to say, I'm messed up and need help.

When we do bad acts we have to feel God is on our side.
that whatever we did was deserved.
Humans have a way of justifying every bad act saying they deserved it or it is our protection.
Or they are a false religion or the wrong color or height or dress to sexy or not sexy enough.
Truth is when they want to do something bad no matter what the person is wearing they are going to kill her.
I mean nuns have been raped.

Perhaps because Satan is the great "Deceiver" and the "father of all lies." What better way to discredit true worship for God than to attribute acts of horror--acts in opposition to God--to religious beliefs?

I think they try to use it as an escape goat. Your not going to say the Devil made me do it although some do say it.
Also many in jail read the Bible and maybe they are learning something about themselves while reading.

they arent blaming religion so much as using religion to make their sicko selves look like human beings *gag*
some of them are truly mental cases that need be put in prison instead of asylums that way they'll kill other prisoners,
besides asylums arent much different than prisons anyway.
