First of all I am throwing his actually party on saturday, so that most of the family can make it. So do I have him open some of his presents tomorrow and some on saturday? I am having cupcakes on saturday... so do I also have cake or cupcakes tomorrow?? I am just not sure how to go about celebrating it for both days... plus the following monday we have dinner with his other grandparents with presents and cake.. I have a few ideas but any other suggestions would be helpful.♥

My husband and I always let my kids open the presents from us and the sister (we have 2 girls) on the birthday and we have a special candlelight dinner and a small cake or cupcakes with just us. We feel their actual B-Day is just for us, then at the big party they open the presents from everyone else and have the big decorated cake. It has worked out great, they are now 6 and 8.

Well, the best news about a 1-year-old is A) he has no idea what a birthday is or how one traditionally celebrates it, B) He won't even remember this day, and C) he doesn't actually know the difference between tomorrow and Saturday. For these reasons, I think you should skip the cupcakes entirely tomorrow, and maybe if you just want to give him a gift from his mommy and sing him Happy Birthday while you're feeding him his peaches or whatever, that would be a lovely tribute. Then Saturday can be PARTY TIME!!!

It's the first birthday. You can't screw it up, because he won't have any idea what's going on anyway.

My kids are now four and five, and they like having as MANY birthday parties as they can, so we spread their birthdays over the course of about a week.

When they were babies, though, honestly, we took the easy road out. They wouldn't care if we spent a lot of time or money or energy on their birthday, so we saved ourselves the trouble. They had one birthday party, and it was very very simple.

Also, keep in mind: the main attraction of a first birthday party is the first birthday cake. Their responses to that first cake varies with each child, so I would hold off on any birthday cake until the actual "party", just so that you get that first response at that time.

I would give him your presents from you the actualy day of his birthday. That is what we do when the birthday is in the middle week and the party isn't until the weeknd. Bake a little cake or have some kind of treat for dessert. Celebrate together and make your present special and then he can get presents from the rest of the family on the weekend. Have a little picnic or something.
