I'm not feeling well, and I'm afraid to ask my boss to go home, because I have a feeling she will make me stay and do more work. I can't even concentrate because of how I'm feeling.

If you are ill, then you can go home. She may ask how serious it is if you have a lot of work to do, but she cannot make you stay, especially if it is an illness that can potentially get worse, or be communicable to others around you.

Knuckle up and tell her your going home, don't ask, just let her know you are leaving and why on your way out of the office.

It depends on how important you are to your job. Can they function without you or is there someone else who does the same job you do? Do you take off sick a lot? A lot of questions to consider. If I have a fever or I think I might be contagious, then I stay home. Otherwise your home, feeling just as sick, and not getting paid. Your boss can't tell you you can't go home, but I'm afraid she might tell you to stay home...for good. I'm not being mean, just trying to help.

You always have the choice to leave. Your employer, though, has the choice on how to respond. Your boss may tell you to stay (but that doesn't mean you have to). They may fire you. They may tell you to take the day off, and hope you feel better. I recommend apologizing, explaining the situation, and point out that you're not doing very good work right now.

You won't know until you ask. I have never had a problem. I've been in the workforce 10+ years post college.
