I have a recurring dream (I started having it as a child) in which I am on these steep stairs. They aren't in a house, there is nothing but air around them and I keep climbing and the higher I get, the more scared of heights I get. I am frozen with fear and clinging to the stair rail. I am literally paralyzed and in a sitting position; crawling at times on my hands and knees. I wake up sweating, heart pounding, terrified. I have probably had this same dream 20 or 30 times in my life. I had it alot as a child.

Writes like stairways to heaven.

We can't climb ourself to heaven. We need Jesus. So? Just obey God & grab Jesus hands & he will hold you up. And also He has paide the price for your sins. You can't climb well enouph to get to heaven. You have to receive His atonement for your sins. He has paid the worthy price. Then when you obey God & confess Jesus Christ your Lord & Savior & believe in your heart that He raised from the dead for you. You will also raise from the dead on resurrection day complete. Receive it today. Be born of God. Then the next dream you are climbing those stairs. Give up & grab Jesus hand.

The significance of the stairs is a goal you are trying to reach. The height represents the degree of difficulty of the project. The higher the stairs are, the harder it is to accomplish. You can overcome this with practice and time, Every night before you go to bed, picture it in your mind, yourself actually climbing the stairs, you may start to feel some anxiety, but what you want to do is climb the stairs in your mind effortlessly. See yourself climbing it and if you fall, what is the worst that can happen in your dream? You fall into oblivion. That's that. What we think about in our mind is just as real as if it were really happening to us, our mind does not know the difference. You decide the outcome. Hope this helps!

The stairs simply represent your wanting to achieve your goals and your deep fear of failure. I'm guessing you have these dreams whenever you are in the process of deciding or determining your next goal or accomplishment, whether it be going in to the next grade at school, preparing for a final, deciding which college to attend, etc.
The best way to combat these fears is to try to establish as specifically as possible your goal. Instead of just "I want to be a vocational guidance couselor when I grow up," be much more specifc - "When I grow up I want to work at a job where I sit at a desk near a window and type reports on a computer and double-check facts and figures for ESPN. In order to work there I need to get good grades in English and Math, I need to study writing, watch at least four different sports on a regular basis, and read sports pages for current scores. I need to get a job first as a clerk in the athletic office at my college campus and help out as a record keeper for my school's football, basketball, and baseball teams."
Okay, so I'm making that up. The point is you need to stop being vague about your goals and be more specific about the 'steps' you need to take to achieve them (get it?)
In your dreams, combat your fear of heights by labeling each step as you climb. Focus on each stair, and label it as you step on it, particularly with past accomplishments. "Step 1, I pulled out my ingredients. Step 2, I peeled the zucchini and chopped it into cubes. Step 3, I peeled and chopped the onion. Step 4, I sauteed the onion and zuchini in a little olive oil in the fry pan. Step 5, when the onion was translucent, I added a little bit of water, about 1 1/2 cups, to the pan with a little salt and pepper, and brought it to a boil. Step 6, I turned down the heat and allowed it to cook for about 5 minutes. Step 7, when the zuchini and the onions were soft I mashed them up with a masher ( what Emeril calls 'The Boat Motor', a hand-held blender, works good too.) Step 8, I mixed 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 1 cup of milk and added that to the pan of mashed zucchini. Step 9, I stirred the mixture over medium heat until mixture thickened. Step 10, I turned off the heat. Step 11, I poured some cream of zucchini soup into a bowl. Step 12, I ate it."
It sounds inane, but by focusing on each specific step as you climb those stairs, you forget your fear of heights and may find yourself at a new plateau.
Good luck. The key to the cream of zucchini soup is a good seasoning. I like to add some Mrs. Dash to the soup as a season blend. Montreal Steak Seasoning blend is another favorite.
