why don't we hear or see more celebs or wealthy americans giving more money to build homes and rebuild communities?
to the best of my knowledge donations are tax deductable. so why not help out the unfortunate souls still living in trailers or where ever they can find shelter?
shame to be sitting on allllll that money and doing nothing good with it.

i'm not refering to criminals or low lifes. i'm refering to the working class people who lost everything they have.

i know personally if i have millions of dollars i would give some to rebuild. it's a tax break. and you can't take it with you when you go

Simple: They don't care.

The rich are into keeping their money not helping someone less fortunate than they are.

Some celebrities are - Brad Pitt started a 'Make it Right' project for Katrina survivors and just the other day him and Angelina Jolie put on a fundraiser and several other celebs were there. Here's a link about it: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=7&entry_id=19769

What I really don't get, is why the military budget for 2007 in the United States is a whopping 532.8 BILLION dollars and actually more because it doesn't include many military items. That is more money than the next 14 biggest spender countries combined!! It's also OVER 8 TIMES larger than China's military budget. According to Wikipedia, this amount doesn't even include the recent Iraq and Afghanistan invasions!!

I'm not American but if I was, I'd be talking with my political representatives and putting pressure on them to use a lot of the military budget to better use (like Katrina victims) and before voting next time, check where each person stands on the issue of military. There's no reason for those communities to continue suffering after 2 years!

Today (August 29th) Oprah will have a new show about Katrina 2 years later with guest Anderson Cooper and Lisa Ling.

They are not required to part with their hard earned money to support people that can't relocate and find a new job in 2 years with the money that was donated before. We have too many people in this country that have become dependant on welfare. I will admit I was on welfare for 3 months then I was back on my feet. If you don't try and just give up you will never amount to anything.

Why is it that because you have money you have to give it away? They gave already, they helped with what they could the more you give the more they want. They also give to other causes. The money people have is to support a family and a decent live style, how is that not doing somethig good? People can't live on others donations for ever.

The funny thing about altruism is it's never enough. It never ends until you see everyone completely sacrifice their lives for the incompetent.
