It's not only because I'm vegetarian but I think it is wrong to eat innocent animals that want to live a life like us. If you want your proteins that bad then eat peanut butter and if your allergic then maybe they can sell Fish only on Fridays. Burgers, Ribs, Steak, Chicken and other meat needs to go. I been vegetarian for awhile and I use to like meat until i found out that they kill these animals while there alive, that's just wrong. Even if you do like meat you can give it up, for the rest of your life. Agree or Disagree?

I disagree. However, I respect the fact that you are a vegetarian and hold fast to your beliefs. But how do you justify killing fish to eat( and why only on Fridays) and not other animals that were put here for the purpose of consumption. But this would be a division of religion and that is not the issue. If you are so against the consumption of animals, do you wear leather shoes, belts, and any other animal made materials because they are killed the same way for these purposes? And what about other living items, trees, flowers, and insects. You use paper don't you? As for your statement"killing them while there alive..." if they didn't kill them while there were alive they'd already be dead. So although, I find nothing wrong with being a vegetarian I find that asking people to give up meat is a naive concept.

I would never be critical of vegetarians. Try a little respect and keep your unbiased opinions to yourself. I do eat fish & chicken, but since animals kill and eat each other, I don't really see the difference. I do have issue with the manner in which some animals are slaughtered for food that goes on the market shelves. I shop organic, free range for all my meats, and as many other foods as I can. I think I've made a conscientious and responsible choice. I'm sure you feel the same about your choice. I'm thankful I have a choice.

If you're going to make a point, then you should pay more attention to what YOU find acceptable before you criticize non-vegetarians. Fish on Fridays? And why Fridays? You're bringing your religious beliefs into it now? Fish are animals. It's okay with you to kill them?

If you want to live in a country that controls us in that way, you need to move to a country that has that kind of control over it's people.

Your are crazy to think meat should be ban!!! I respect vegetarians, I don't know how you eat like you do, but I respect. about the fish thing. did you even think about that before you wrote it. Of course they kill animals while there alive... God put animals on this earth so we humans (dominant over animals) would have food to eat. You don't know if an animal wants to live life, hell they probably don't even know if they wanna live a life. Animals were put here to be hunted, killed and eaten by humans and other animals. Its called the food chain! I cannot give up meat. Its part of what keeps my healthy and i love the taste of meat.

Yesterday I answered a Y! Q about learning things on Y! Most definitely. Some is surprising. Before answering your Q, I read what other A's are out there. Murder, but tasty murder! Now THAT is learning!
Sorry, I must disagree with your premise. Humans simply cannot live without meat in some form or another. Call it what you will, meat, poultry, fish, vitamins, supplements, whatever, without meat (or products derived from meat) a human will die.
There are lots of different kinds of proteins; there are lots of different kinds of fats. Some are good; some are unhealthy. Irregardless, they are absolutely essential for life.
I agree that most people should reduce their consumption; scientists claim that an "average person" requires about 4 ounces of meat a day...about the size of a pack of playing cards.
Check the various websites to see how much pork, beef, poultry and fish is consumed annually, divide by the approximately 300,000,000 persons in the U.S. and you will see that the "average person" consumes far more than is necessary or recommended.
McDonalds, Wendys, Taco John, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, etc., etc., sell foods saturated in, guess what? saturated fats! lipo proteins! etc.
Now, if you could achieve the most admirable goal of having people greatly reduce their consumption of "fast foods", school meals, even restaurants and eat only good, home cooked meat in the proper amounts, I would definitely praise your efforts.
By the way, I hate eating fish! Salmon once in awhile in salmon patties is OK; otherwise, yech! (My wife is a Filipina! She eats all kinds...crabs, clams, salmon, octopus...)
I love peanut butter, but 2 years ago on the way back on a 600-mile trip, I ate about 3 bites, began vomiting, over and over. I had a gall bladder attack and wound up later in surgery. I STILL enjoy eating peanut butter. The point is, due to health, religious and personal reasons, people eat different foods.
I grew up on the farm; however, I could never kill a chicken, duck, goose, turkey...I simply do not believe in killing if avoidable and that's that!
After all that, you pose an interesting "question" and hopefully it will cause people pause, and, hopefully, a decrease in consumption of meat.

Two or three points:

Why don't you consider that a fish is alive and wants to continue its existance just as much as a chicken, pig, goat or a cow? What makes it OK to eat a once living fish on Friday? Is it wrong to do it Tuesday, but fine on Friday?

Secondly, you have a problem with killing an animal while it is alive. That's what killing is. One moment it is alive. The next moment it is dead. All creatures are alive before they die.

The inconsistancy of SOME vegetarians is often what causes others to poke fun at them, or even outright hatered, such as "gwen s" response. (thumbs down, gwen for your final comment. Uncalled for as the asker was simply asking if you agree or disagree) Some take on the cause for the wrong reasons. I have no moral objections to people that chose not to eat meat for logical or spiritual reasons. but I will totally disagree and attempt to lead people to THINK about what they say and do. Hypocricy is the sign of weak thinking and should be challenged.

I put it to the asker: Do you swat flies? Do you accept that rats should be eliminated from human living and eating spaces? Do you take antibiotics when you are ill? Do you take care not to step on ants and other small creatures?

Do you eat fish on Fridays?

Sorry I disagree with you....

These animals are raised to be eatten. Guess what animals eat other animals too. You want meat to be banned, yet you say that maybe they can sell fish on fridays. Aren't fish animals too? Humans have always hunted since the beginning of time. We aren't killing animals for fun, we are killing them for food, there is a difference. I would agree with you if we were just killing them for sport and nothing else. Maybe I don't like peanut butter and getting protein from other sources, just like you don't like to eat meat.

I would never surrender my RIGHT to eat meat. You say you are a vegetarian, well I am a carnivore. I could no sooner stop eating meat as you could start. I also hunt, and I enjoy occasional trips into the wilderness to exercise my God given dominance over wild animals. I dont have a problem with you being a vegetarian, but I take offense to the notion that I should give up meat, not to mention watch my countrys economy go into the toilet, because you resist your natural, human, carnivorous instincts.

Fish are animals too, why don't they count? And how else would you kill an animal? If it isn't still alive then it is already dead and killing it again would be a little redundant. I could never give up eating meat. While I respect your right to your opinion, I have to disagree.
