my onkyo is a 100 watts but due to its wide sound technology its very loud when it comes to its highs. im not sure if power is a problem. i think maybe there is too much power. the onkyo bose combination is harsh not relaxing when it comes to guitar music. if the onkyo is paired with soft speakers then the music will sound soft. But i do believe that a analogue interconnect soften the sound. a analogue interconnect that is designed to soften the sound. i just like to know if im right about this and which interconnect brands would u recommend for my system

Hi.I have found some information regarding the 901 series and equalizers. The original Bose 901 Speaker was released in 1968.It had to be used with a special Equalizer that literally altered the full frequency range of the speaker to obtain a flat response from each 4.5 inch.driver. A tremendous boost in the lower frequencies was required and the highs were also boosted. The basic principle of the design was Acoustic Suspension which required large movements of the drivers to produce enough air movement for bass. The minimum power requirements of the 901 was 200 watts per channel . Bose had at the time a suitable amplifier with a built in equalizer. If you were using an amplifier from another manufacturer ,you had to insert the separate equaliser between the preamp and power amp.As each two series of the 901 were released you had to use another equalizer suitable for the next two series. In other words series 1 and series 11 used the same equalizer.Series 111 and series 1v use the same equalizer. Series v and series v1 use the same equalizer. You can't mix and match speaker series with equalisers (.In other words you cant use say series 1 with series 111equaliser, it won't work).
You can't use any other equalizer in place of a Bose equalizer because it won't sound correct.(Bose is very carefull as to what you can and can't do) So ,if you have the original 901 you have to use an amplifier that will supply 200 watts or more per channel with the Bose equaliser for the 901 series1 or 2. Or if you can find the Bose amplifier with the built in equaliser

Your Onkyo should already have some form of equalization built in but since you neglected to provide a model, a direct answer is hard. You will need to turn down the higher freqs ( treble) and maybe add to mid and low end.
