I find this most disturbing.Just a few days ago,I heard of a couple who left their baby in the backseat and it died from the heat. They each thought the other had dropped the baby off at daycare.

Like you , I find that appalling, yet today it is necessary. we live in an area where there are lots of pool and its daily watch your baby around water. cuz there are so many drownings. Shoot, tootie, watch your children at all times. Why do we have to be told this?? We all should know that. I knew that at age 18, I knew it at 12, but I didnt have babies, but I sure did babysit. Today, ppl are so busy and full of self that few are acting responsible. Now I didnt say ALL, so lets stay calm here folks. But when a society has to tell us how to raise our children and protect them, I say we are a nation in huge trouble. I live in a huge city and hear things every day that just blows you away, like ppl have no morals, ethcis, conscious or common sense. WE are a nation that has turned out back on God pretty much, and we are paying for it. HE will leave those that arent His, but He will continue to protect His loving, loyal, faithful believers that love HIm enough to obey Him. We hear this stuff like you do daily , and I got to where I rarely hear the news anyore and I stopped the paper. Such darknes surrounds us. Our ony hope is in Jesus Christ and staying with Him, thru to vicotry till HE comes again.
As sad as it is they have to tell us these things to watch our kids, it still must be said cuz so few will. I just wonder if those that are living in such numbness will hear the warning tho, as so few will hear Gods warnings today. All are called and only a few will hear and respond. WHe we abandon God, He will eventually abandon us and thats what we see all over this world today. not jsut here in america, all over. I recently heard of a a guy wanting to be a girl, and he hated his body, so he began to chop at himself till he choped his legs off, totally mangled, eventually he wanted to cut it ALL off. How did this society get like this? we have abandoned God and the way HE says to live. God is calling u sback, will any of you hear Him call and then asnwer?? Its just something I ask you Just thinik on it, are you willing to take a risk about losing out on heaven? IF not, think and ask God to begin to reveal truths to you and HE will.
HE is calling. Who will answer the call?

Well, some people just shouldn't reproduce for starters ... I've read about too many cheapskates leaving their kids in the car while they worked a shift or drank some beer or (fill in the blank with your favorite slacker excuse), because they couldn't pay for daycare. I KNOW it is expensive, but come on. This is your CHILD. Hire a teenager if you have to!

However, I have read of instances where it was a crazy morning, and maybe dad was dropping off the kids and he normally doesn't do it, and he is so stressed and rushed that he just forgets the sleeping baby in the backseat. And I'm not singling out men ... a hurried mom could do the same thing. My heart breaks for the people who truly were so distressed about work or some other issue that they forgot.

I think radio reminders are a fabulous idea. I've never heard them, but I would not take offense at hearing them often. They remind us not to leave our pets in the car, why on earth not remind us no to leave the kids? And it sure beats the heck out of some annoying commercial.

Probably a waste of time. In Arizona, we have a year-long harangue to watch kids around water (swimming pools, that is). But you can't really never, ever take you eyes off your kids 24/7, and the second you do, they sneak out the window, hop the fence, slip under water before your very eyes, etc. Then if something bad happens, the implication is that you were passed out drunk on the sofa, down at the corner bar, or glued to the phone or the computer, and therefore a criminally negligent parent. What about the mom a few years ago who took a nap with her two children, and the children woke up, slipped out of the house and were hit by a train? Or my friend whose 3 year old woke up from his nap, walked behind the family watching TV, slipped out the garage door and was found by the neighbors a half mile away?

Accidents happen, that's why they're called accidents. And we're all fallible humans who forget and get distracted. You tie a string around your finger -- and then forget what the string is for. It's called life. And sometimes tragic death. The ads are feel-good measure but have nothing to do with reality.

I feel so sad when I hear such news. Its so disturbing how parents can forget their lil ones.

Yes! something like when you get out, an alarm telling "Dont forget to get your baby!" And may be a parent watch which reminds them of different baby things like feeding time, nap time, drop off time and some setting which says, take your baby from the car seat.

Using the radio will be great but it can be annoying to people who dont have children and some parents may not use radio. So I think the best idea is when you turn off the ignition of your car, a special parent alarm to pick your baby.

That has happened before. In california years ago a father forgot it was his day to take their 1 year old to daycare. The baby was sleeping in the back seat and the dad parked his car in a huge parking lot. The baby died. Soooo sad but really an honest mistake. It was a long drive to work and he honestly just forgot.

I don't know where you live, but it happens WAY too often in Arizona. I think it's fine that the radio does the "reminders." Heck, I don't know how else to get the message through to these parents. Although, in the situation you mention, I suppose I could somewhat understand. But why did it take them so long to realize the other didn't have the kid? As soon as I shut the car door and then my husband shuts his car door, wouldn't you know RIGHT AWAY that one of you doesn't have the baby???? Unless one went one direction and the other went the other direction. Sad, so very sad.

it's very disturbing to hear of such things...i knew of a young boy that died from heat exhaustion because the daycare workers that picked children up left him in his car seat in the van. it was HOURS later before they realized that he was in the van.
i cannot imagine dying that way.

it's not just parents.
but it IS a HUGE problem.
my husband is a military cop, he tells me every summer about someone that they had to ticket and sic child services on for leaving their children unattended in a HOT car while they "ran in for a second" to grab something at the grocery store on Base.

it's sickening! I've seen ppl do it in town...and i report it immediately. i don't think people realize just HOW fast a car can heat up even in mildly hot weather.
the reason for the commercials on the radio is well founded...people are very ignorant of heat exhaustion.
they assume that by cracking a window they are letting enough air in. but if anyone has ever sat in a hot car (even w/the windows FULLY down) they know just how hot it can get. the temp. inside a vehicle can triple in just 20 mins. that's enough time to suffocate your child.
it's a very sad problem...for children AND even for pets; both of which is illegal and should be reported immediately!

I think it is nuts. How could you forget you had a baby in the car? I could almost see if they left the baby at the house, each thinking the other had taken the baby. I think that's a stretch, but maybe. But how could you drive to work and not remember that the baby was with you?

There is just no good excuses for leaving a baby in the car. The fact that we have to remind people of this is scary.

I heard about that one too.how can you not see your child in the back seat...the carseat would give it away if the parent looked in the rearview mirror.and it is sad what this world has come too.parents should have the responsibility to know where there kid's are at, at all times.or letting there kid's get out side when their 2and wander in the middle of a highway
yikes!!!
