Americans say that the british and others have really bad teeth but i have just come back from the states and some of the ones i have spoken too have really bad teeth wow some of their teeth are green and also some of them have false teeth. I think it's about time the americans stop saying it now as their teeth are just the same lol could even be worse.

i am a dentist from singapore. we are fortunate to see people from all over the world. Most Americans have very good dental treatment especially those who are insured. The British were unlucky as after the war their government started the national Health Scheme. The motive behind the scheme is very noble. every citizen gets their teeth treated hugely subsidised by the government. however the Law of unintended results took over. The scheme was hijacked by the civil service bureaucrats who later cap the amount paid to dentists for services done and slowly reduced it to pittance. At the same time human greed took over. Many dentists in UK did fillings for the sake of money so many Brits ended up with huge amalgam fillings. Some of them were repeated every 6 months. The average Brit had little choice then. since every dentist was an NHS dentist you have a problem getting one self onto the rolls. It will cost Britain a lot as when all the Brits gets older they will have a lot of root canal treatment followed by crowns. Thankfully as the British Government can no longer fund the NHS scheme, NHS dentistry has faded away. Now the average person can choose their own dentist and query them if they feel their work is not to their satisfaction.

Wow, you're not being a little rude and judgemental are you? I am an American and I have never once heard anybody say that ALL british people have bad teeth. If you've heard it somewhere than the person or persons you heard say it were rude, but you're being no better right now by jumping to the conclusion that ALL Americans think the british have bad teeth.

This is an old joke that comes from the immediate post-WWII era. After the end of WWII, the British economy did not recover nearly as quickly as did the US economy. Thus, general health (including dental) was not as good in the UK as in the USA for a time. Times have changed, jokes haven't.

It's only because overseas you don't have fluoride in your water like we do here. For military post we had free dental care , they gave out fluoride pills due to the fact of the lack of fluoride. So somewhere along the way. People say that. But dental care is needed everywhere.

Life's too short to worry about who has good or bad teeth.
