I recently purchased three of these photographs and I would like to keep them in view otherwise what is the point of having bought them ? I am worried that the constant amount of indirect sunlight or electric light will fade them. Could any one tell me if I am going to ruin them this way? Thank you

Since Daguerreotype is basically mercury, it will last forever as long as it was sealed from air and human touch. Light will not affect it much but avoid direct sunlight as much as you can.

The biggest bane for a Daguerreotype is that the milk paper itself is very fragile and will tends to break if touched.

Also keep the photo away from moisture, extreme temperature (hot&cold) and of course dust and dirt.

I would find a way to make copies of them and display the copies. Put the origianls away for safe keeping.

I would contact a museum's conservator, they can usually direct you to resource's with the best, most up to date information about how to display pieces & preserve them properly. In my experience they are very helpful because they always want to help preserve irreplacable works...

Hope this helps. Good luck...

I'd make sure they were protected by glass that screens out UV.
