the measurement is more exact as the person is stretched out fully... some people stoop when standing

the numbers will be fairly accurate, but it does tend to work best when standing. this is because the floor takes the guess work out of determining where the true bottom of the foot is. it also keeps one foot from being lower than the other. when one is laying down it can be difficult to determine what you should officially call the bottom of the feet.

People are taller when lying down, gravity doesnt weigh on the spine, and is therefore elongated. Though technically more accurate, its not the standard when comparing height to others.

it is okay to measure them on the floor if they have difficulty standing or sitting. there shouldn't be a difference in the numbers either way.

yea and theyd actually be more acurate because youd be stretched out to your full height.
by lying down the weight of your body completely straightens your spine,
so really you find your heigh better if your lying down!
