The IRS standard mileage rate is 48.5 cents per mile for business. If you are traveling for your personal medical needs the rate is 20 cents per mile. There is not a "federal rate of mileage reimbursement" the federal standard mileage rate is the amount you take per mile without itemizing your expenses. If you are reimbursed for your mileage by someone and the amount is less than the standard mileage rate you can take the difference. If your mileage reimbursement is greater than the standard mileage rate you must take the difference as income.
